We encourage our guests to consider extending their trip and turning our wedding into an opportunity for a memorable overseas vacation. Travel has always played a significant role in our relationship, allowing us to explore new cultures, create lasting memories, and deepen our bond. That's why we've chosen to tie the knot abroad, as we wanted everyone to experience our love through a new cultural adventure. Whether you're exploring the charming streets of Edinburgh, delving into Scotland's rich history and breathtaking landscapes, or venturing to other European destinations, there's so much to discover and experience. Feel free to plan your travels before or after the wedding festivities to make the most of your time abroad.

Question

How long does it take to get a passport?

Answer

Typically, routine processing for a new passport application can take around 4 to 6 weeks from the time of application submission until you receive your passport in the mail. However, during peak travel seasons or due to unforeseen circumstances, processing times may be longer. If you need your passport more urgently, you can request expedited processing which generally takes about 2 to 3 weeks. Additionally, expedited services may incur an extra fee. It's important to apply for your passport as soon as possible to ensure you receive it in time for your travel to Edinburgh. Be sure to check the current processing times and requirements on the official website of the passport issuing authority in your country for the most accurate information. If you have any concerns or specific deadlines, consider contacting the passport agency directly or utilizing expedited services to expedite the process.

Question

What is the best way to get to Edinburgh?

Answer

The best way to reach Edinburgh from the United States is by flying. Most international travelers fly into Edinburgh Airport (EDI), which offers direct flights from major airports in the United States. Alternatively, you can also consider flying to other major European airports such as London Heathrow (LHR) or London Gatwick (LGW) Paris (CDG) Dublin (DUB) Zurich (ZRH) and then taking a connecting flight or train to Edinburgh. It's advisable to compare flight options and prices to find the most convenient and affordable route for your travel dates. Additionally, you may want to consider factors such as layover durations and travel time when making your travel arrangements. If you need any assistance or recommendations regarding travel arrangements, feel free to reach out to us. We're here to help make your journey to Edinburgh as smooth and enjoyable as possible!

Question

How do I get a rental car?

Question

Do I need an International Drivers License?

Answer

As of my last update in January 2022, US citizens visiting the UK, including Scotland, are not required to have an International Driving Permit (IDP) if they have a valid US driver's license. Your US driver's license should generally be accepted for renting and driving a car in Scotland. However, it's always a good idea to carry an IDP alongside your US driver's license, especially if you plan to travel extensively or if you encounter any situations where it may be requested. While not a legal requirement in the UK, an IDP serves as an official translation of your driver's license into multiple languages, making it easier for authorities to understand your driving credentials.

Question

How do I get an International Drivers License?

Answer

In the United States, you can obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) from either the American Automobile Association (AAA) or the American Automobile Touring Alliance (AATA).

Question

What are the addresses of the wedding ceremony and reception venues? Are they wheelchair accessible?

Answer

All wedding events will take place at Carlowrie Castle, located at Boathouse Bridge Road, Kirkliston, West Lothian, Scotland, EH29 9ES. The venue is wheelchair accessible.

Question

What is the easiest way to get to and from your wedding venue(s)?

Answer

For transportation to the venue, we recommend using Uber, especially if you plan to indulge in alcoholic beverages for safety reasons. However, if you've rented a car and won't be drinking, there is ample parking available onsite.

Question

Is there parking available near your wedding venue?

Answer

Parking will not be an issue, as there is more than enough parking available onsite for all our guests.

Question

Will your wedding be indoors or outdoors?

Answer

The wedding ceremony will be held indoors. However, since it's winter in Scotland, please bear in mind that there might be snow or rain.

Question

Have you reserved blocks of rooms at one or more hotels for the wedding?

Answer

We've arranged room blocks at The Dakota for guests not staying onsite. The hotel is a convenient 10-minute drive from the venue, although it's outside the main city of Edinburgh. If you prefer to stay closer to the city, there are plenty of hotels and Airbnbs within the city limits, although you'll be approximately 30 minutes away from the wedding festivities.

Question

Will there be a shuttle to and/or from the hotel(s)?

Answer

At present, we're not planning on renting a shuttle due to the close proximity of the venue and the availability of Uber. We will provide uber codes closer to the wedding.

Question

What is the dress code for your wedding?

Answer

The wedding itself will be black tie, but all other wedding events will have a casual dress code.

Question

Are there any colors or styles you'd prefer me to wear?

Answer

While it's not mandatory, we suggest wearing dark colors to complement our goth glam vibe. Think along the lines of plum, maroon, evergreen, etc.

Question

What is the weather like in the area?

Answer

The weather in Scotland can be quite unpredictable, much like the atmosphere of an Edgar Allan Poe book—dark, moody, and mysterious.

For all other events, there will be a predetermined quantity of beer and wine provided. Additionally, there will be a fully stocked bar where guests can purchase their preferred drinks.
