Despite both going to college in Boston, we actually met for the first time in my hometown of San Diego! Casey and his friend Cal were visiting Casey's college roommate in San Diego. They had some downtime and I was friends with Cal at Emerson College so they gave me a call to hang out. We spent the day on my dad's boat. For years, we remained friends despite nearly everyone around us telling us we should date! Finally, in January of 2014, I flew back to Boston for school and Casey picked me up at the airport. The rest is history!
We were on my family's ski trip to Big Bear. I had been giving Casey a hard time for not wanting to hit the slopes that day (he's new to the sport). Little did I know, it was because he didn't want to break his leg and ruin the proposal! Casey ended up skiing and he did great! I wanted to celebrate with drinks (shots) at the lodge. Casey was hesitant to keep the drinks flowing (now we know why - he didn't want us tipsy during the proposal). We ended up getting back to our cabin and got ready for dinner. As we approached the restaurant with my family, I noticed the patio was blocked off and there was a huge ice sculpture. On it, it said, "Bianca, will you marry me?" I was completely shocked! I had absolutely no clue that Casey had been planning a proposal. As a reporter, I was SURE I would have caught on to a plan. He dropped down to one knee and, of course, I said yes! Just when I thought the night couldn't get any better, after dinner, Casey suggested we all go to a dive bar across the street to celebrate with our favorite beer (Coors Light) and when we walked inside, two of my best friends, Erika Loberg and Ariana Woods, were there waiting! The next morning, my mom and aunt surprised us with an amazing Palm themed brunch. It was the best weekend of my life!
