San Miguel de Allende - SMA - is located in central Mexico, about four hours from Mexico City. The time zone is central (US Central). It is an old, colorful, and mountainous city that Justina and her family visited each year when she was a child.
It is around 6,200 ft above sea level, which is similar in comparison to Colorado Springs. Please make sure to hydrate prior and during the trip. If you are prone to altitude sickness please bring Aspirin, Oxygen or consult with your doctor.
Similar to Colorado in the summer. The sun is strong and warm during the day, and mornings and evenings will be cool - please bring a jacket or shawl to throw on as needed, and a sun hat for during the day if you wish.
While yes it is safe, San Miguel de Allende is a heavily populated city. Please be aware of your surroundings and take the usual precautions when in any urban environment.
No, we do not suggest renting a car. Once in San Miguel, everything is walkable or a 3 minute taxi ride. We recommend booking a ride to and from the airport via your hotel concierge or the house you are staying in San Miguel. Please email us at casahudgens@gmail.com if you need help booking this, we are happy to coordinate this for you.
No. For the wedding day, please wear flats or LOW heels/block heels. Please do not wear high heels - this 16th century city has all cobble stone streets and we do not want you to roll an ankle.
Your non-expired passport, comfortable shoes, sunscreen, a jacket or pashmina for the evenings, a hat for the sun if you would like.
We would suggest having a small amount of pesos. We recommend using the ATMs in the central square right across from the Starbucks or inquiring if your hotel has one. Pesos are used in cabs and markets. Most shops have a credit card machine, but not all of them.
