An hour drive from CastelBrando, but only a short train ride from our home in Sacile, is the city of Treviso. Inside its 14th-century Venetian walls is a charming historic city center interlaced with canals and waterside cafes and restaurants. In addition to its well-preserved architecture and famous culinary scene, Treviso is home to many high-end boutique stores, artisanal shops, and parks, but without the bustle and tourist traffic of Italy's more well-known cities.
A two-hour drive from CastelBrando, Sirmione is a picturesque town perched on the peninsula of Lake Garda’s southern shore. It is known for its thermal baths and rich history, especially the medieval Scaliger Castle and the ancient Roman ruins of Grotte di Catullo. Wander through its narrow streets, filled with gelaterias and charming cafes, or relax by the lake's crystal-clear waters.
Just under a two-hour drive from CastelBrando, Cortina d'Ampezzo is a stunning mountain town nestled in the heart of the Italian Dolomites. Its famed resorts will be playing host to the Winter Olympics in 2026; however, in the summer, it is the perfect home base from which to explore the area's many hikes, glacial lakes, via ferrata routes, and rifugios.
For those planning on traveling to Rome please take extra precaution to plan ahead. The year 2025 is a planned Jubilee, or holy year, for the Catholic Church, meaning that Italy's most popular tourist destination will be even busier as millions of pilgrims converge on the Vatican. Expect large crowds, especially at major sites, so book accommodations and tickets early. Stay flexible and enjoy the unique atmosphere of this historic celebration!
