Things To Do

There are so many spots to check out in this area. Here is a list of a few of our favorites!

Troy Waterfront Farmers Market (Summer/Fall)

Front Street, Troy, NY 12180
, (518) 708-4216

This is a favorite spot for Show and I on Saturday mornings or afternoon. It is considered the largest farmer's market in NY state! You can stroll around and find vendors selling food, arts and crafts, beverages, and much more! If you are in the area for the entire weekend, this is a great spot to check out!

Troy

Troy, NY

Show and I love this little Victorian city! I guess this is one of the reasons why we are getting married here! In town you can walk around and check out the local restaurants, bars, breweries, coffee shops, bookstores, and much more. A few of our favorites are places are: 1. Brown's Brewery of course! 2. Whistle and Kettle (Great brunch or lunch spot with an assortment of varieties of tea and has delicious scones!) 3. 518 craft (Great beers to taste) 4. Jacob and Alexandro coffee shop 5. Rareform Brewery 6. The Hill at Muza (Amazing polish food in family owned restaurant downstairs, the upstairs has more modern Polish food with a great vibe) 7. Little Pecks coffee shop and Confectionary Wine Bar 8. The Tavern above Little Pecks (Wonderful Cocktails) Feel free to explore this charming little city!

Albany

Albany, NY

While we are getting married in Troy, Albany is only 6 miles away from Troy. Easiest route is to take route 787 south. Sites in Albany include those listed below: 1. The Capitol Building (Take a Tour) 2. The Plaza (location with state office buildings and The Egg performing Arts Center. A pretty landscape to walk and site see. 3. The New York State Museum (Free) 4. Washington Park (Designed by Frederick Law Olmstead; same person who designed Central Park in NYC, and Delaware Park in Buffalo) 5. Lark Street (Street with local restaurants, bars, shops, etc.) Favorite places in Albany to eat/drink: 1. Albany Distilling (Only snacks, but cocktails are delicious!) 2. Nine Pin Cider 3. Lost and Found (Great food and drinks!) 4. Madison Pourhouse (Local pub Show and I venture to regularly) 5. Wolff's Biergarten (German Biergarten) 6. Nocturnal cookies (Make the best late night cookies: opens at 7pm) 7. Madison Cafe and Iron Gate (Both great spots for brunch!)

John Boyd Thacher State Park Visitor Center

830 Thacher Park Road, Voorheesville, NY 12186
, (518) 872-1237

Spend your day surrounded by nature! At John Boyd Thacher State Park, you can enjoy the panoramic views of the Hudson-Mohawk Valleys as well as both the Adirondack and Green Mountains. Wonderful views of Albany along the escarpment. Sit back and relax or engage in some fun! The park offers volleyball courts, playgrounds, ball fields, picnic areas, disc golf, rock climbing, hiking, and enjoying the newly renovated visitor center. This spot is one of our favorites to drive too and about 30-35 minutes from Troy.

Peebles Island

NY 12047

Peebles Island State Park is at the confluence of the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers. It offers spectacular river and rapids views for walkers and joggers who take advantage of the miles of paths through the gently rolling and wooded landscape. Picnickers and fishermen come to relax. At the entrance of the park in Waterford is also the Waterford Harbor Visitor Center that has some neat Erie Canal's to check out!

Saratoga Springs

Saratoga Springs, NY

About a 25 minute drive North along the Northway (Route 87 North). The name reflects the presence of mineral springs in the area, which has made Saratoga a popular resort destination for over 200 years. It is home to the Saratoga Race Course, a thoroughbred horse racing track, and Saratoga Performing Arts Center, a music and dance venue, and Saratoga National Historical Park, location of Battle of Saratoga. Not only are these locations great to check out, but the city itself is wonderful to walk around and check out all the local shops and restaurants!

Lake George

Lake George, NY 12845

Lake George is a town in New York’s vast, protected Adirondack region of mountains and old-growth forest. The town sits on the lake of the same name. On the shore, the Fort William Henry Museum & Restoration is a restored British fort, built in 1755. Nearby, Million Dollar Beach has picnic areas and a boat launch. The Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway offers views of the lake and the Adirondack High Peaks. Even just taking a walk along the waterfront to view the lake is absolutely beautiful. At 32 miles long, up to 2.5 miles wide, and with depths reaching 200 feet, Lake George is considered to be among the clearest and cleanest large lakes in the world.
