NO JOKE -- this is the best library! The saying in town is, "Came for the skiing, stayed for the library" and it is (mostly) true! We'd highly recommend grabbing a good read, sitting down by the river, and getting a good Colorado tan. They also rent movies and TV shows (for free!) if you're feeling a low-key night.
This is our favorite restaurant in Steamboat Springs. We highly recommend going for happy hour, and check out the "snacks" menu, as well as the fun cocktail list. The chef seems creative and passionate, and the entire restaurant has a non-pretentious vibe while still delivering on taste and style.
If mountain biking and hiking is your thing, look no further than Emerald Mountain! Not only does the mountain have an extensive trail network (all for free!), but it has plenty of dog-friendly trails and beautiful views of Steamboat Resort. Emerald Mountain is also home to Howelsen Hill, the longest operational ski area in all of Colorado. You'll be able to stand at the top of the ski jumps (if you dare!) and look over the town of Steamboat Springs. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and suitable footwear.
THE BEST BRUNCH IN TOWN. The only bad part about this spot is the wait. Make sure you arrive early and bring good conversation starters while you wait to be seated. The creek runs right through so you won't be short on beauty. Oh, and the eggs Benedict = totally worth it.
The Yampa River is not only next to both our ceremony and reception, but it's a popular place for all things recreation! At this time of year, fly fishing is still very popular. The Yampa River Core Trail also lines the river, which is perfect for biking, running, or strolling, and many restaurants overlook its waters on Yampa Avenue in downtown Steamboat Springs. It's basically a "choose your own adventure" book, just way cooler.
If you have a car and are looking for a fun day trip, look no further than the Clark Store! (Well, you could look further and drive just 15 minutes North to Hahn's Peak... which we'd also recommend! ...But anyway!) The Clark Store is a combination of a general store, a gift shop, a liquor store, a cafe, an ice cream shop, and a post office. Locals of North Routt use this store for their daily needs in rural Colorado, and we happen to think it's pretty quaint and adorable. Fall colors may be better from this elevation, and the trip is totally worthwhile (if you're into gorgeous mountain ranch scenes, that is).
Ah, Steamboat Resort. The home to our skiing habit, our hiking favorites, and both of Lauren's ACLs. Thunderhead Hiking Trail is a must (bring plenty of water and your quad muscles!), as well as the restaurants and dogs at the base. The Steamboat Bike Park and the disc golf courses are also a ton of fun. Steamboat Resort is known for its hospitality, so reach out to the resort if you have any questions!
