Despite the Massey and Waddell families being friends for years, Carolyn and Davis were the last two to catch on. Davis's brother, Keith, and Carolyn's brother, Chris, were close friends in elementary school and their parents got to know each other in the early 2000's. Davis and Carolyn didn't get to know each other then, but almost connected in 2011 when Carolyn reached out to Davis to be her SAT tutor. Davis was an aspiring entrepreneur at the time and didn't have his scheduling skills perfected, so the two never met. Years later in 2019, on the night before Thanksgiving, Carolyn and Davis each made their way to Manhattan Beach's dive bar, Shellback Tavern. Davis was the first person Carolyn was introduced to that night. She was thirsty. He was carrying two pitchers of beer. The rest is history.
