Travel Note
UPDATED JUNE 19 You must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to enter Canada as a tourist. However, as of April 1, you no longer need to take a pre-entry Covid test, regardless of whether you drive or fly. Before entering Canada, you must download and fill out the ArriveCAN app with your travel details, as well as a photo of your vaccination card. You should fill out the app before leaving (although you can't finish filling it out until 24 hours before you will arrive). Also make sure you have the most up-to-date version of the app, as it's updated frequently and older versions may ask for information you no longer need to fill out - for example, it used to ask for a quarantine location (where you would stay if you needed to quarantine), but as of April 25, fully vaccinated passengers don't need a quarantine plan. If you're flying, you'll go through customs in the first airport you fly into in Canada. (I.e., if you connect in Toronto, you'll go through Canadian customs in Toronto). You may be randomly selected for a Covid test, but not everyone is selected. (If you're connecting, they might allow you to take a test kit and test at your final destination).
Travel Note
UPDATED JUNE 19 The United States no longer requires a Covid-19 test for entry, which should make getting back much easier for guests coming from the U.S! Still, please note that you will likely go through U.S. customs in Canada rather than when you arrive. If you're flying directly to the U.S. from Calgary, you will go through U.S. customs *in Calgary*; if you connect through Toronto or Montreal, you'll go through U.S. customs there during your connection. Take the customs time into account when planning how early to get to the airport. You can enter customs up to 90 minutes before your flight, but it's likely worth getting to the airport even earlier as we've heard the customs lines have been quite long this summer.
Travel Note
See above for information on testing protocols and vaccination requirements for entering Canada. For travellers coming from outside of Canada, note that you must be fully vaccinated to enter but are not required to take a pre-entry test. Currently, Alberta does not require proof of vaccination to go to restaurants or other public venues. However, we strongly encourage all guests to be vaccinated and boosted. Note that Covid-19 restrictions are subject to change; we will try to update this page but please check in advance as well.
Flight
You can fly into the Calgary airport, which has regular direct flights to New York, Minneapolis and many other U.S. cities as well as connections through Toronto or Montreal. Be prepared to go through Canadian customs at the first Canadian airport you travel through.
Rental Car
We recommend renting a car if you're flying in and plan to explore Alberta or Calgary; there are several rental car stations at the airport. While Calgary has a light rail transit system, the airport is not connected by train and Heritage Park is about a 40 minute walk from the nearest station. You can also cab to/from either the airport or Heritage Park.
Travel Note
If you're travelling from out of Canada, please remember to apply for a passport or renew yours if it will expire soon. For U.S. citizens, the State Department says renewing a passport takes up to 11 weeks (7 weeks if you expedite the process).
