In July 2018, Carlee was at a Beyoncé concert with her best friend, Hannah. She asked Hannah if her boyfriend (now husband, Alex Clementi) had any single friends. Hannah exclaimed, "YES!” and described Jacob Smith. Carlee was intrigued, so Hannah sent a photo of Carlee to Jacob on Snapchat with the caption, “Meet your future wife.” Jacob replied with a few heart emojis, then Carlee got his username. She sent him a message that said, “Hi this is Carlee!" but he did not reply. A few months went by. One afternoon in October, Jacob was hanging out with Alex. Alex asked him if he ever messaged Carlee back and reminded him that Carlee was hilarious, stunningly beautiful, kind, and above all - modest while writing about herself. Jacob then finally messaged her back on Snapchat. After messaging back and forth, they started texting and talking on the phone. They finally met in person the following week and felt an unexplainable connection. At the start of their relationship, Carlee lived in Lexington, Kentucky, and Jacob was in Richmond, Virginia. They took turns visiting each other, but in May 2019, Carlee took a leap. She quit her job, sold her condo, and moved to Richmond to be with Jacob. Fast forward to November 2022. One evening, Jacob and Carlee attended an engagement party for friends and afterward went to the Jefferson Hotel to have drinks with their parents. When they arrived, Carlee and Jacob sat by the Thomas Jefferson statue and waited until Jacob said, “Let’s go look over there...” Carlee reluctantly got up, and Jacob proposed by the staircase. After Carlee confirmed that he was being serious and Jacob was sure she said yes, they celebrated with their parents! And now we cannot wait to celebrate with you!
