Planning a wedding can be stressful. But "unplanning" a wedding? Not exactly something Sam and Colton had considered. The weekend of Colton's bachelor party, Arizona started to shut down due to COVID-19. When Doug Ducey issued a statement that Arizona would be following CDC guidelines recommending that large events be canceled, we were crushed. Less than a week before the wedding, we made the difficult decision to postpone. While Sam's Type-A brain immediately went into panic-mode, Colton just kept saying "I want to marry you on Friday". Ultimately, we decided to trade our big wedding for an intimate elopement with our parents and a few close friends. With a little bit of luck, and our incredible photographer Suzy Goodrick, we managed to pull it off. Suzy's husband Mike officiated our ceremony under a Saguaro in Papago Park just before sunset. After taking pictures, our small group migrated to a nearby apartment complex where we drank champagne and ate Papa John's pizza. We played guitar, sang and celebrated our "marriage day". We are so excited to have a "redo" with our friends and family members on January 8, 2021. (And let's be honest - we may need to renew our vows after being in quarantine together anyways!)
