How We Met

Two words... Silk Sheets (not the ones you sleep in)

Maggie and Nathan’s story began on two wheels, during a bike ride along the scenic Silk Sheets route while training for Ironman. What started as a casual ride turned into something more during another ride, where they spent hours deep in conversation. From that point on, they became inseparable training partners—Maggie inviting Nathan to swim practice, Nathan helping Maggie push through challenging runs, and the two of them bonding over meal prep sessions. The spark truly ignited after their first race together. They went out to celebrate, and Nathan walked into the bar wearing a white linen outfit, effortlessly catching Maggie’s attention. Fast forward to May 2023, when Nathan surprised Maggie by flying in to cheer her on at her first Ironman. After the race, over Thai food, he asked her on an official date. Their relationship continued to grow, leading up to another race in Maggie’s hometown. It was there that she made it clear: “I don’t take boys home unless they’re my boyfriend.” Nathan didn’t hesitate—he was all in. From that moment on, their relationship has been a series of adventures. Together, they’ve raced, traveled to London, tackled the hardest climbs (like Lookout Mountain), and created countless memories. Their story reached a new milestone during a ride of a lifetime, when Nathan proposed. Now, they can’t wait to start their greatest adventure yet—marriage—and celebrate with all of you this June!

The Proposal

What started as a normal training ride ended in a way Maggie never expected!

Let’s set the scene: Maggie was deep in a training block for Ironman 70.3 Waco, and her coach had prescribed a hill-focused ride to prepare her for Waco’s unexpected elevation. Naturally, her coach sent a Strava route that included Lookout Mountain in Tennessee, a climb famous for its challenge and breathtaking views. Maggie thought nothing of it—after all, she and Nathan were already planning to be in Tennessee that weekend for her dad’s birthday. The night before the ride, Maggie and Nathan went to REI to pick out a birthday gift. Coincidentally, REI was having a bike gear sale, and Maggie spotted matching cycling jersys—an absolute must-have for the duo who love to match. When she asked Nathan what he thought, he casually agreed, while internally panicking at how perfectly things were falling into place. The drive to the ride was uneventful, though Maggie couldn't shake a tiny suspicion. She always thought getting engaged on a ride would be fun since cycling was how they met. But she saw no ring box and reasoned that it would never fit in Nathan’s bento box anyway, so she brushed it off. The ride itself started as any other. Nathan acted completely normal, and Maggie was focused on the climb. But as they hit the steeper sections of Lookout Mountain, Maggie started to struggle. Nathan rode ahead and stopped to wait for her, prompting Maggie to yell, “Please don’t stop for me, that makes me upset!” About halfway up, she wanted to quit altogether, but Nathan wouldn’t hear of it. He pep-talked her into finishing, and together they pushed to the top. At the summit, Nathan casually suggested they take a picture at a scenic spot he’d scouted earlier. As Maggie asked if he wanted to use her phone, Nathan turned to her, grabbed her hands, and at that moment, she knew. He spoke sweet words, got down on one knee, and Maggie—momentarily at a loss for words—eventually managed to say, “Yes, of course!” Their friend Carly, a photographer, was there to capture every moment in stunning photos and video. But the surprises weren’t over. Instead of heading to Spencer, TN, to see Maggie’s family as planned, Nathan pulled up to a gorgeous property with a cozy cabin. Waiting there were both of their families, and to Maggie’s delight, her best friend popped out with champagne in hand. The celebrations lasted all weekend, complete with a beautifully decorated dinner planned by Nathan’s brother Audi and Maggie’s sister Jamie, with plenty of help from both families. It was a weekend full of love, laughter, and memories that Maggie and Nathan will cherish forever—a perfect start to their next chapter!

Our Story So Far

Life in Atlanta and Beyond

Maggie and Nathan both call Atlanta home and plan to stay in the city they love after the wedding. Their days are often filled with runs on the BeltLine, walks in Piedmont Park, and spending time with friends and family. They are active in their church community and cherish the relationships they’ve built there. Triathlon remains a big part of their lives. Both are still training and racing, with Nathan also planning to explore other adventure races. Their triathlon team has become like a second family, and the friendships they’ve formed through the sport are some of their closest. Family time is a priority too. Maggie and Nathan love spending weekends with Maggie’s sister Jamie and brother-in-law Hudson, and making trips to visit Nathan’s parents. They also enjoy escaping to Spencer, where Maggie’s parents live, to spend time in the woods. Whether hiking, relaxing, or simply soaking in the quiet, those trips have become a cherished retreat for them both. After the wedding, they’ll move into Nathan’s condo—though Maggie is already hoping for a new addition in the form of a puppy! As they step into this next chapter together, Maggie and Nathan are excited for the adventures ahead and can’t wait to see where life takes them.
