Mason and Cami met through a mutual friend, Mason Royalty (MR to avoid confusion) aka the matchmaker. The first communication that took place between the two was during their senior year of high school on September 3rd, 2015. Mason had just finished a soccer game (a 3-0 win at Franklin Central) and was on the bus back to Columbus when MR came in clutch by sending Mason Cami's Snapchat. Mason then spent the whole bus ride home Snapchatting Cami. Everything was going well until his phone died, leading him to believe that things were over between him and Cami. To Mason's luck, Cami was still interested. Fast forward a couple weeks later, Cami and Mason had their first real date on September 19th, 2015. This came on a Saturday after Mason's soccer team had just knocked off the #1 team in the state and eventual state champions, Center Grove. To say Mason was riding high was an understatement. He used that fuel and newfound confidence during their date, eventually asking Cami to be his girlfriend on top of the Cummins Parking Garage in downtown Columbus. This occurring after a wonderful evening of eating sushi and Dairy Queen blizzards.
The day was Sunday, February 7th, 2021. Mason was getting ready to move to Dallas, Texas for the next 6 months for his second Cummins work rotation. Cami was going to be staying in Indiana, so he realized it was now or never in terms of popping the question. He had spent the Friday before in Bloomington with some buddies where a good time was had. During this time, he had brought up the idea of asking Cami to marry him in less than 48 hours. With all of his buddies in full support, the plan was hatched. Mason quickly texted Cami's good friend Payton, urging her to get Cami's nails done on Saturday. It was a success. With that, Mason then asked Cami if she would accompany him to one last church service on Sunday before the big move. She of course said yes. This was perfect as she just had her nails done and was also dressed nicely. Acting as if there was no plan after the church service, Mason suggested getting brunch at one of their favorite local places - The Hangar. This was a hit. After brunch, Mason then nonchalantly suggested getting some coffee downtown. Cami obviously agreed as she can never turn down a brew from Lucabe. With the journey in route to the coffee shop, Mason again very calmly asked if he could park in the Cummins Parking Garage - a special site as it had been the place Mason had first asked Cami to be his girlfriend, as well as the site of a promposal. It was a special location and a place that Mason wanted to revisit with Cami one last time before moving. Of course, this was the coldest day of the year, roughly 10 degrees, but that did not stall plans. With things in motion, Mason and Cami started the walk from the parking garage to Lucabe, a roughly 10-minute walk. Bad news, upon arriving at Lucabe it was closed. Of course, Mason did not look at their hours. This was unfortunate as he had two friends, Ramiro and Benji, in route to the parking garage to help take pictures of the event, and they were not in place yet. No worries, Mason then calmly suggested going to Graham's Bakery, another local coffee place a block away. Bad news, Graham’s was also closed. Of course, Mason did not look at their hours either. Mason was panicking at this point but did not show that to Cami. Last resort, Mason confidently then suggested McDonald’s. Mason knew this was a ridiculous request as it was like a 15-minute walk from Graham’s and was freezing out. Cami did not act irritated at all as she was determined to get her coffee at that point. This played well into Mason’s plan. After getting coffee from McDonald’s, Mason received a text from his buddies that they were in place. From there, Mason and Cami made their way to the parking garage and went to the area where the first question was asked. Mason said some words that he cannot remember and got on his knee, asking Cami to marry him. She said “Yes”. Some pictures were taken and a wonderful day was had.
