This is my favorite trail near Denver, and it's only 7 minutes from downtown Evergreen. It's a relatively short hike, (2.4 miles round trip), but please be aware that it has a bit of elevation gain (643 ft). You'll find that this amount of gain is relatively small compared to the neighboring hikes. I find it to be the perfect little half-day (or less) outing.
Fantastic little mountain bar and grill, that hosts lots of local live music. You can eat on the back porch next to a babbling brook. The music can be hit or miss sometimes, I would know, because I've played there before! - Jake
Right in town, this one is an easy choice for people who want to enjoy time outside but can't commit to anything else. It takes about 26 minutes to complete (per alltrails). It is on a paved surface, and pretty much 0 feet of elevation gain. For a similarly short hike with more impressive views, a bit more rugged terrain, and a bit further of a drive, see the Loveland Pass Hike.
A .8 mile Round Trip, with EPIC views! Loveland Pass Lake Trailhead gives you access to the most beautiful part of Colorado, with the most minimal effort! This is my 10/10 recommendation to people who want to experience the high altitude of Colorado, without the commitment of a huge hike. It is about a 52 minute drive from evergreen. See Alltrails Link for official trailhead information, or type in "Loveland Pass Lake" on google maps. This is a high altitude area, so take it easy, and drink lots of water.
This is NOT for the faint of heart. You must be strong and confident for this one. Do not do this hike on a day that it might rain, because lightning does strike on the high peaks. But if it's a good workout, a strong feeling of accomplishment, and you have a day to kill, this is my favorite mountain you could ever hike in the Denver Area. The trailhead is about 1 hour from downtown Evergreen. Bring at least 2 full liters of water, (more is better), and know your limits and when to turn back. Altitude Sickness is NO JOKE.
