Man of Honor
Darcee and I's friendship began on a trip to Kindred in 2009. Nothing went according to plan and soon we were left with just the two of us. We decided to take the drive anyway. From that day on, two people who had hated each other quickly became inseparable best friends. I remember the first time Caley and I spent the weekend at the lake together. The genuine joy on Darcee's face was something I had never seen before. She looked at Caley the same way she looked at me. From that moment on, I knew she had found her soul mate.

Due to the amazing detail of this story, we have to break it in two! Caley and Darcee asked for our favorite memory with them but I have too many for just one! If I have to choose just one, it is from when Caley, Roy and I lived in a house together downtown. Darcee wasn’t living there but once we all found out they were together, she practically lived there! Anyway, Caley was super excited to make dinner for us so one day when she knew she was going to be working a little later she wanted to make something in the crockpot. She went with a roast. For those of you who have not tried Caley’s cooking OMG you are missing out! Also, whoever taught Caley how to cook, I love you!! Anyway, Cal got this roast going and she was swearing it, seasoning it, and getting the veggies ready to go into the crockpot. She then needs to go to work and she asked Darcee and I to watch it and once it was ready, we could eat it.

Again, due to the amazing detail, this will be in two parts.. Enjoy!! One of my favorite memories with Caley and Darcee is this one- time Kristina and I were invited to Darcee’s lake cabin to spend the weekend with them. Kristina and I packed up and went to Darcee and Caley’s. We all got into Caley’s car and off we went to Ottertail. Kristina was pretty drunk and got burned bad while going down the river. We then went to the cabin and we wanted to go swimming some more. However, we decide it would be best to go paddle boarding and kayaking instead. Kristina was in so much pain that she decided to stay on the dock. There was a weed bed that we wanted to get too. Caley was on the paddle board and Darcee and I were on the kayaks. We made it about halfway and the wind started to pick up. We went to start heading back to the dock, and as I tried turning around a wave came up and tipped me over. Just like that I was in the water. It didn’t stop me from trying again though. I get the kayak back up right and got in.

Part 2... Well, Darcee and I started drinking since both our significant others were at work. We were drinking a lot, but we were at home no intentions on going anywhere so we just kept going. Well FINALLY the roast was done! We kept smelling it every time we would need a refill, but we were going to wait until Caley and Roy got home. Caley then texted saying she was going to be stuck at work longer and that we could go ahead and eat. Darcee and I wasted no time at all, and we went for it! Darcee filled a bowl, I filled a bowl and we just went to town on this roast! Darcee and I just kept going back for more and more. We were out on the all-season porch and we ended up spilling on of the bowls, so we had to get more. Darcee and I ate the entire roast all by ourselves. We left maybe some onion pieces, but all the meat was gone. Caley and Roy and get home and they were both so sad that we ate all of it, but they made other food. What did make them mad however, is when Darcee and I started throwing it all up because of how drunk we were. So not only did they not get any of this amazing roast, they had to watch us as we threw it all up. We felt bad but we also not really because it was very, very good!!

Here comes part 2!!! I slowly start sinking as my kayak is filled with water. With some speed and worry of sinking fully, I start paddling back to shore again. All of a sudden again I get tipped over! Mother nature was over me! So, as I am trying to hold my head out of the water, the kayak is slowing sinking. I start freaking out and Darcee comes over. I try climbing into her Kayak, thinking she is going to be nice and save me, but what does she do instead?! She kicks me off her kayak and says, “You are not getting in my kayak!!!” Now I am really freaking out! I am struggling hard. I am flailing about in the water screaming, “Don’t let me die!” Caley then comes up beside me and tells me to get on her paddle board. I get on, holding on for dear life, and Caley is just kicking and pushing me back to shore. Darcee grabs the kayak and starts going back to shore as well. We are getting closer to shore and I look back and see Caley floating on her back. I ask her if she is okay and she’s says yes just tired. Kristina was just sitting on the dock with her feet in the water laughing as all of this is unfolding. Some wife she is! The best part of this story though, is that earlier that day, I was telling them all how I wanted to become a park ranger!

Darcee is my aunt, and we've grown up together; she only being 7 years older than me, our relationship was more like siblings than aunt/niece. But I'll be honest, I can't quite remember when I first met Caley; it honestly feels like shes been apart of our lives forever! Darcee had brought her to meet the family a few times, but actually getting to know her took some time as our family was very loud and probably a little overwhelming for Caley initially! But it only took a few gatherings for her to be like family:) My favorite memory with these two was when we were traveling back from our big family holiday in Florida. We flew in later at night and slept before driving home from Minneapolis. It felt like we hadn't eaten in days, so we stopped at McDonald's for their breakfast meals because those are the best. ~$50 worth of Mcdonalds later, we are on the road. I think we each ordered two meals with our sodas and a shake or something extra. I don't think any of us were feeling great after those meals and that drive, but it was worth it.

“Did you see anything?” I can’t remember the date exactly, but I can tell you that it was in the middle of the night. Before my answer, context is needed to better understand why this question was asked in the first place. I worked together with Darcee and Cal at the fine-dining establishment that is Buffalo Wild Wings. If you’ve ever worked in a restaurant, you will know that your co-workers quickly become your best friends and (in some cases) your immediate family. In time Darcee and I became roommates together, or so I thought… Little did I know that a part-time 3rd roommate was also staying in the house with us as well! The reason I did not know of this 3rd roommate’s existence was because this 3rd roommate wouldn’t arrive until late in the evening, and would park her car many houses down the street. Whether it was a product of good timing or bad, all I know is that when I went out the back door of the house to grab something from my car; someone who wasn’t my roommate snuck past me and rushed down the stairs into the darkness of the basement where Darcee was supposedly sleeping. It was late, I was tired and didn’t think too much of the situation. Upon waking up the next morning, there were SEVERAL text messages waiting for me from Darcee… “Did you see anything?” Yes I did… I saw Darcee and Cal falling in love with each other!

I still remeber the first day, Caley’s first day at the tavern. She came in for her follow training to serve and I was on expo. And for those who don’t know, I am expo queen! The expo is my baby, I don’t play games… sometimes. All I saw was someone who came in guns blazing and knowing everything, allegedly. The girl with the Minnesota tattoo telling me that she knows what she’s doing.. from then on I was being hard on her & making sure she knew who I was. Little did I know we were gonna be the bestest friends moving forward & now I am her bridesmaid 🥹

When I met Darcee she was just the loud lesbian who worked in the kitchen! I'm pretty sure once I was accepted into the fold I got to know her at pay day Monday downtown. I met Cal at bdubs once Darcee was okay with everyone willing to know she had a girlfriend again. I never got to know Cal well until I started working in town again. After seeing those twos antics together and their joy together it was the making for a great relationship.

I met Cal through The Tavern Grill prior to her becoming a manager; friendship born at the beverage station. Her and I shortly realized we would be work besties; however Cal wanted to take our relationship to the next level....actual friends! One day she approached me at the beverage station and said "I really think we have the same vibe and should be actual friend's." Of course I said yes; Cal is the best! Friendship between Darcee and I quickly followed and grew. I have always said that these two are #couplegoals. Sauntiana is so fortunate to have you two as part of her Village. #GETDOMESTICATED
