Caleb and Abbey met in the fall of 2020 when Caleb began working at Moody Bible Institute’s Crowell Library, where Abbey worked as an information assistant. Despite having several shifts together, the two worked at separate desks and barely interacted with each other. The earliest interaction either can remember was on a particularly cold and snowy night in Chicago, when the security officer responsible for opening the library was particularly late. Left in the cold with nothing but her midwestern pride to protect from the elements, Abbey was freezing and Caleb took note. Despite repeated pleas from Caleb to accept his gloves, Abbey vehemently denied. As random and innocuous as this interaction was, it was perhaps the first time that either noticed the other. It wasn’t until the Spring of 2021 that Caleb and Abbey’s relationship truly began to develop. One night in March, Abbey came into work to discover that one of the most-used scanners in the library wasn’t working. Unsure of what to do, she goes to Caleb. What followed was an hour of fiddling with the scanner and more laughter than should ever be allowed in a library (don’t tell their supervisors). In an uncharacteristic move for Abbey, she immediately began messaging Caleb after this event. The two formed a strong friendship in record time, quickly feeling a sense of trust and security with each other. They also realized that they could laugh together, a lot. What were intended as quick visits or hellos inevitably consumed the entire afternoon. Phone calls intended to last thirty minutes stretched out to several hours, neither wanting to be the one to hang up the phone. For the following year, their relationship continued to develop with plenty of ups and downs, until Caleb finally proposed in January of 2023.
