San Francisco (SFO) has the most airline/connection options and is usually the cheapest. You'll have to drive through San Francisco an over the lovely Golden Gate bridge to get to Sonoma County, it's about 1 hour 15 minutes drive outside of rush hour. There is also a shuttle option, see more info below. *Some airlines like Alaska allow you to check a case of wine for free, it just needs to be packaged well.
Flight
Oakland Airport (OAK) is smaller than SFO, easier to navigate, and less busy. It's great for budget airlines like Southwest with direct connections to Nashville. It can be cheaper to fly into OAK. The drive is about an hour and avoids city driving but is less scenic. There is also a shuttle option, see more info below. *Some airlines like Alaska allow you to check a case of wine for free, it just needs to be packaged well.
Flight
The local airport in Santa Rosa (STS) and very convenient. The only airlines that fly in/out are American, Alaska, and Avelo. It's small and really easy to navigate, check-in and security is a breeze. - Avelo is a newer budget option with direct flights into this airport from Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, and Boise. - Alaska is great and affordable with direct flights into this airport from Los Angeles, Burbank, San Diego, Portland, Seattle, and Las Vegas. *Both airlines allow you to check a case of wine for free, it just needs to be packaged well.
Travel Note
There is an airport shuttle that travels between the Santa Rosa area to both San Francisco and Oakland airports on separate routes. They have many times that they pick-up and drop-off at both airports. There are several stops along the route and takes about 2 hours travel time to/from Santa Rosa and SFO/OAK. They offer one way or round trip fares that you can book online in advance.
