Genna was born in Michigan, but her family moved between Michigan and Kentucky, with a short stint in South Korea, for most of her childhood. She attended Calvin College where she studied Education, Mathematics, and Integrated Science. After graduation, Genna began working as a 7th grade science and math teacher in South Lyon, MI. Alex was born and raised in Central Ohio. He attended Kettering University in Flint, MI where he studied Engineering. He now works at General Motors in Milford, MI.

In September of 2021, Genna had decided to give online dating a 24-hour ultimatum and Alex was just about fed up with the dating apps as well. By happenstance, they both swiped right (for the second time), but were skeptical of whether or not the other would respond. Within 24 hours, they had struck up a conversation and within a week Alex had asked Genna on their first date to Novi Coffee, not knowing that Genna was not a coffee drinker. They knew by the end of the evening that there would be a second date as their conversations continued beyond closing time. The next few weeks were filled with more fun dates, covid for Genna, a trip to Maine for Alex, and a Halloween party with both of them. After the Halloween Party and unintentionally meeting Genna's parents, Alex asked Genna to be his girlfriend. Since then, they have met each other’s families, traveled together, attended several races, made many wonderful memories, and are now looking forward to the rest of their lives together.
