Who said love can’t be found in a bar? It was 8 years ago this June, that I found my future bride to be at the lively Cole’s bar on Elmwood. It was a Tuesday night and as any young 20 something knows, Tuesday’s at Cole’s is “Ladies Night.” There were no shortage of ladies present…but there was one in particular that caught my eye. I had moved to Elmwood avenue a few weeks earlier into a brand new luxurious apartment with a friend of mine. Just kidding, it was a tiny little apartment above a sushi restaurant that was breaking every known housing violation known to mankind. My intention was to explore my options and play the field a bit, but that lasted one whole week before I met Nikki. Nikki was out celebrating her close friend’s 21st birthday on that Tuesday night. They were in a group of five and certainly having a good time. I had just arrived with a friend of mine, and we were camping out at the bar. Within about 2 seconds of being there, Nikki and I made eye contact, and the sparks were immediately flying. There is some debate that night about who made the first move (the drinks were flowing). But all I know is when I turned my head around again, there she was standing right next to me. If I wasn’t intoxicated already, her breathtaking blue eyes certainly did the trick. We hit it off at once and spent the next 2 hours chatting and laughing. For me, it was love at first sight. A ton of traveling, a new home and one good boy later, we’re finally ready to tie the knot!
