Visit Seward, AK. Seward is a neat town, Kenai Fjords tours is one of my favorite tours I have done in Alaska.
Take the Denali bus tours to see the best of Alaska!
One stop shop for just about anything to do in AK!
Hatchers Pass has some of the best hiking I have experienced. Google different hikes to get difficulty and distance. If your up for a day trip, check out Reed Lakes! Or, just drive up to the mines to check out their museum and there are short hikes from there as well.
Headed down to the peninsula? Take a few hour detour to travel to Whittier and experience the longest tunnel you'll likely ever travel through (one-lane Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel—the largest combined rail and highway tunnel in North America). Its worth it, no clue what you'll find on the other side these days, I haven't been there for 15 years or so, drive as far as you can from town and see some magnificent Alaskan views. Check out hiking opportunities. Stop and chat, you're sure to meet some interesting souls..
I didn't know it while I grew up in Alaska, born in Palmer. But Palmer has some of the most exceptional mountain views you'll ever see (in my opinion). If you are traveling to or from Talkeetna to Anchorage, take a detour ~ 20-30 min to the heart of Palmer. If you have a few extra min, punch in the Butte into your google maps, you'll see everything Matanuska Peak and Pioneer Peak have to offer (assuming you can see them). Driving through the Butte you can jump right back on the highway. Or, google search Inner or Outer Springer Loop and see the valley the Peters family grew up in. Really interested?, search Nissen dr and you'll find the street we grew up on!
