In 2013, Rebecca and Bruce started working at the West Edmonton Mall Apple store and quickly became good friends. But everything changed two years in when they were both suddenly single—a fact Bruce slipped in at one point, mid-conversation. So, Rebecca invited Bruce to a coworker’s going away party. The two had a few drinks, flirted, and shortly after, started dating. They’ve since been together for nearly eight years. It’s the small, tender details that make their love big: the video games, their favourite songs by artists like Leon Bridges, and shared rituals, including at night, when Bruce tucks Rebecca into bed when she goes to sleep. They’ve quietly clung onto moments that make up their shared language: during a trip to Houston, TX, Bruce loved how excited Rebecca was to visit the NASA building. Meanwhile, Rebecca took a mental snapshot of how tender Bruce was at PRIDE. Importantly, the couple volunteers at Edmonton Folk Fest every year. It’s a tradition that started with Rebecca’s family and is now one they share together. The tradition is so special that two years ago Bruce got down on one knee and proposed to Rebecca at Gallagher Hill—the Folk Fest hill. She said yes. On Sept. 3, Rebecca and Bruce will get married in front of friends and family, a celebration that’s as much for them as it is for those who have watched their love bloom. They’re excited to see you there!
