Things To Do

New Orleans is so much more than Bourbon Street! Visit the places that made us fall in love with this city. ...Food heavy recommendations because this city has THE BEST food.

Frenchmen Street

Frenchmen Street, New Orleans, LA

With one trip around the clubs on Frenchmen, you are likely to hear all kinds of music, as it is what the street is known for. It’s not the first place most visitors know to go to, but inside the clubs like Snug Harbor, the Spotted Cat, d.b.a , Blue Nile and even outside on the street, you’ll hear some of the best live music produced anywhere in the world. Grab some friends and dance the night away on this bumping thoroughfare. Most clubs are 21 and older, but a few allow children until 10pm! If it's a family night out, visit 30/90 and the Maison.

Cafe Beignet, Bourbon Street

Just hearing the Traditional Jazz music of Steamboat Willie and His New Orleans Jazz Band in the French Quarter or at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is a memorable experience. A veteran of Dixieland & Traditional New Orleans Jazz, he not only enchants the most discerning critic, he also has the ability to excite those who are not yet experienced veterans of this creative art form. Steamboat Willie is a music historian specializing in the 1920's era. One distinctive aspect of his trumpet and vocal trademark lies in reviving obscure tunes as well as old favorites in a traditional jazz manner. Additional bands preceed Steamboat Willie at the Cafe on Bourbon Street. Live music is heard at the Royal Street location from 4pm-10pm and the Decatur Street location from 2pm-10pm.

Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop Bar

941 Bourbon Street, New Orleans, LA 70116

This was a recommendation by one of my first boss out of college, Kevin Jones. One time KJ sent Preston and I a drink over the phone here and that was such a surprise! Built between 1722 and 1732 by Nicolas Touze, is reputed to be the oldest structure used as a bar in the United States. Between 1772 and 1791, the property is believed to have been used by the Lafitte Brothers, Jean and Pierre as a New Orleans base for their Barataria smuggling operation.
