One Wednesday evening, Brooke happened to request off from her typical Wednesday evening shift at Rev Cycle to attend an Electric Flight Crew run. Brooke's friend Kim offered to pick her up and they would go to EFC together. Kim left out that her brother Mike and her fiancé Alex would be joining us. Brooke got in the car and met Mike for the first time. We all went on the run together, the four of us starting in a pack. Mike opted for the longer distance run and Brooke lingered back with Kim, both picking the shorter run distance. Once the run was over we all headed to happy hour at Point South Latin Kitchen, Brooke's fathers restaurant at the time. Brooke had been helping her Dad with marketing for the restaurant used the happy hour as an opportunity to grab some content of the food. Mike went on to make fun of Kim and Brooke as they worked the angles of the food and used their phone flashlights to get that perfect lighting. We all had a great night. The next day Brooke sent a text to Kim saying "her brother was super cute." Brooke then decided to reach out to Mike and DM'ed him on Instagram. We started talking briefly and to be honest Mike was playing a bit hard to get. A few weeks had passed before Mike and Brooke ended up hanging out again on Halloween. We all hung out at Mike's house prior to going out. Brooke and Mike were quite the beer pong team. Brooke should have known right then that they were so in sync as partners and Brooke loved beating everyone since we all know how competitive she can be. We went out in Fed Hill for the Halloween Bar Crawl and ended up getting separated from Mike and his friends. Brooke can thank her Maid of Honor Lein who decided to get us to go back to the bar that Mike was at. Brooke's skeleton costume must have sealed the deal because Brooke and Mike were inseparable ever since.
Mike and Brooke decided to plan a hiking trip to Roanoke, VA with two other couples. Kim and Alex joined the trip along with Caitlyn and Pat. Brooke planned most of the trip setting up the hikes and the brewery tour. The trip was planned during the height of COVID, so to say the least we were all excited to get out of the house. Leading up to the trip Brooke thought possibly her and Mike would be getting engaged. It was the first time Brooke and Mike were taking a trip after they had gone looking at engagement rings together. So of course, Brooke just in case got her nails done and planned a cute outfit. We all set out for the road trip Saturday morning October 10th. Brooke planned a hike for when they all got to Roanoke. Unfortunately, the weather was not great, but the whole group powered through the rain and some slippery rocks. Kim had her nice camera and was snapping photos along the way. Post hike we headed to our adorable Airbnb. The next day we planned a brewery tour, we had a great time trying all the different local beers. That evening we opted for a night in with pizza. That evening Brooke was a bit upset, but did not want to let on it was about the engagement not happening as she had hoped. That evening Mike and Kim decided to switch up the hiking location from our original hike. The next morning we packed up our belongings, left the Airbnb, got our last coffee from an adorable coffee place in town and set out for our last hike. We got to park for the hike and we were the only ones there besides a guy who was heading out to kayak the falls. The hike was pretty with a ton of great scenery. We got to the bottom of the waterfall and Mike took Brooke's hand. Mike whispered "I am going to do this now." He got down on one knee, ring in one hand and Ash's leash in the other. Mike asked Brooke to marry him and she said YES!. Shortly after, the kayaker comes barreling down the falls photobombing our post engagement shots.
