We first met several years ago while we were both working at the Villas Senior Care in Sherman, IL. He worked the front desk, I worked in therapy. We caught each others eye but we were pretty shy about talking to each other outside of "Hi! How are ya?!" when passing each other in the hall. I heard from my boss that Brian had a crush, but I blew it off as a silly rumor. He asked my coworkers to pass me gourmet Oreos from Peases in hopes that this would confirm a romance, but of course I was oblivious. One day I thought I would take a shot in the dark and ask my boss for his number in case Brian was truly interested in me. After that we began texting and he asked me out for our first date on Cinco De Mayo. We had Mexican food followed by a night of bowling. I actually had to sneak him beers at the bowling alley because he wasn't old enough to drink at the time, he was 20 turning 21 in a couple of weeks. He tried to impress me with his celebratory dance moves and by showing up to the date in a corvette. I guess it worked because that night we shared our first kiss and the rest is history.
I proposed on an ordinary day. Audrey was working and I had the day off from work. I knew I wanted it to be intimate and a moment between just us. So, I decided to do it at our home, just us and our doggos. My idea was to have one of our dogs wear a tag that said "Will you marry me?" and the ring on the dog's collar. I went and had the tag made with the date and message inscribed, then I went home and waited anxiously for her to come home. When she first walked through the door she greeted the dogs and was oblivious to the bling Oliver was sporting on his collar. I panicked thinking she was never going to see the ring, so I had to subtly hint that she should pet Oliver some more and she finally saw it. I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. Audrey cried (tears of joy I think) and was completely surprised. She said yes.
