Engagement
Facebook is the start of our love story. It began with a friend request from a Juan Lopez AKA Seun in 2008. We discovered that we had mutual Facebook friends in common, plus Seun went to Uniondale High School with some of my family members. We developed a strong friendship over the next few months through phone calls and Skype, but with the distance, while he was attending UB & I attending Farmingdale State College, we lost contact. Five years and three degrees later, a week after I re-activated my social media accounts, I received a Facebook message from Juan Lopez again, stating "I thought you were dead" ...and the rest is history.
It was a normal summer day at the famous DeRoché Residence. I was on my way to what "I thought" was a going away to college party for my little brother. I was in the Jam Bar Room and my sisters and friends were surrounding me, giving me shots and I just thought to myself..."I love my family". I was told my grandmother wanted to speak with me in the living room, so I left the Jam Bar Room to see her. She was telling me about the tomatoes she was growing in her backyard. During our conversation, I looked up and saw everyone surrounding us. I then saw Tope (my future brother-in-law) taking our photos. At this point, I am still totally clueless. I told my grandmother, "Woah, everyone is looking at us, let’s smile for the camera". (See photo in album) Then all of a sudden, the room fell completely silent. That's when I saw my mother and my future mother-in-law holding a sign that read: "Britney, I will always be yours, will you be mine forever?" (See photo in album) Seun walked up to me and got down on one knee and asked for my hand in marriage. I said YES!
