Places to Eat/Things To Do

We're so excited you're making the trip to Charlottesville! We wanted to share a few of our favorite spots. If you have any questions or want to talk more about recommendations, please don't hesitate to reach out to Bridget or Nitin.

Dinner

Oakhart Social This is a modern American restaurant near downtown Charlottesville. The menu has everything from fried chicken, to fish, to pizza. The cocktails are also great! Tavola One of Bridget and Nitin’s favorite Charlottesville restaurants, Tavola serves amazing Italian food. Be sure to make a reservation before you come to town, as it can be hard to get in at the last minute. Mas Tapas Great spot for Spanish tapas. Tavern & Grocery An American restaurant with a cocktail bar in the basement. This is where Bridget and Nitin went on their first date. It’s a great spot to grab dinner or brunch. Lampo Pizza This is our favorite pizza spot in town. You’ll be able to get an array of wood fired pizzas. They don’t accept reservations.

.

Continental Divide This is a happening tex-mex spot with great spicy margs. They don’t accept reservations, so be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes to get in on the weekend. Public Fish & Oyster Great spot if you’re craving oystersHimalayan Fusion Indian, Nepalese and Tibetan cuisine Jack Browns A dive bar on the downtown mall, that’s a great place to grab a beer. It also happens to have our favorite burger in Charlottesville. C&O, Keswick Hall, Broadcloth (a tasting menu), and The Ivy Inn These are great spots if you’re looking for a more upscale dining experience in Cville. Keswick Hall is a beautiful hotel about 20 minutes outside Charlottesville. There’s a great restaurant, pool, and golf.

Breakfast, Brunch, and Lunch

Bodos There are multiple Bodos locations throughout Charlottesville. This is the best place to grab a bagel, if you’re looking for something good but also quick. Belle An easy place to have lunch and sit outside. All of their sandwiches are delicious! Farm Bell Kitchen A southern restaurant that’s great for brunch. We love the chicken and waffles (and gravy!) Grit Coffee, UVA Corner This is our favorite coffee shop in the area. They also have great croissants and matcha lattes. MarieBette Cafe and Bakery A perfect place to go for breakfast, lunch, or any kind of pastry. Bridget loves their chocolate chip cookies. Nitin loves the croissants. It can get crowded on the weekend, so be prepared to wait in line. Tacos Gomez Food truck with amazing tacos. It’s always in the same spot if you google it. You won’t miss it though, there’s always a long line (moves quickly though).

Cocktails

BobBoo Speak-easy bar right next door to the Quirk Cafe. The Alley Light Another speak-easy that happens to have great food. Definitely make a reservation before heading over there.

Wineries and Breweries

A trip to Charlottesville would not be complete without visiting one of the many wineries in the area. This list is a great place to start: https://www.virginia.org/listing/monticello-wine-trail/16242/. Be sure to bring a blanket to sit on if you visit one of these. They can get crowded on the weekends. Our favorites are: Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards, King Family Vineyards, Veritas Vineyard & Winery, Early Mountain Vineyards, and Glass House Winery. If you’re more interested in cider, Potter’s Craft Cider is a great place to visit and spend the afternoon. For beer lovers, there are also tons of local breweries in the area. This list has a lot of good options: https://charlottesvillealetrail.org/ Our favorites are: Random Row Brewing, Three Notch’d Craft Kitchen & Brewery, and Kardinal Hall.

Hiking

Charlottesville is just a short drive away from Shenandoah National Park, which has more than 500 hiking trails. If you’ve never done the Shenandoah Skyline Drive it’s worth checking out as well. It’s a National Scenic Byway that runs 105 miles along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains with look out points along the way. Here’s a great list of recommended day hikes: https://www.nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/day-hikes.htm Our favorites are: Ragged Mountain, Humpback Rocks (will take about ~1 hour up and back with steep parts), the Blue Ridge Tunnel and Chris Greene Lake Park (bring a bathing suit, you can swim in the lake!) If you’re more interested in a scenic stroll, try the Rivanna River trail. You can even rent kayaks, canoes, tubes, or stand-up paddle boards and head down the river: https://rivannarivercompany.com/

UVA and Monticello

UVA offers historical tours that are about an hour long that cover the University’s history from the founding to the present day. For more information on the tours visit here: https://www.uvaguides.org/historical-tours/ Monticello, “Little Mountain,” was the home from 1770 until his death in 1826, of Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence and third president of the United States. Buy tickets in advance to tour the grounds: https://www.monticello.org/visit/tickets-tours/

Downtown Mall

8 blocks of pedestrian streets lined with historic buildings, restaurants, bars, and art galleries. The Mall has become the contemporary/commercial and cultural heart of the city. It’s worth stopping by here to check it out and get something to eat or drink!
