We hoped that September would bring a re-opening of venues and locations and travel restrictions. That's not quite the case! Randolph AFB is currently not allowing any visitors on base, so we've had to redirect our celebrations elsewhere. New ceremony time & location: 2:30 PM - 3:00 PM St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church 8500 Cross Mountain Trail, San Antonio, TX 78255 New reception time & location: 3:30 - 9:30 Ingenhuett on High 731 High St, Comfort, TX 78013
Hi everyone, if you saw before, we had originally scheduled the wedding for May 23rd. But life happens (coronavirus happens!), and you have to change and adapt! While we would've preferred to have learned another way, this is certainly an important lesson in life. We hope that this change is in everyone's best interest. Here's some of our considerations: - Safety: We don't want anyone to have to choose between attending or their safety. We have a few loved ones who are particularly vulnerable. - Inability to travel: Our military friends and family are currently under a travel ban until May 11th. Even if this is not extended, there may be lesser travel bans that would prohibit our loved ones from attending. We don't anyone to have to fight with leadership or get higher-up approvals just to attend. - Social distancing/isolation: There is currently a ban on gatherings of over 10 people, previously 50. This may be lifted by May, but again, we don't want to risk it.
I guess we must be millennials, because we met through social media. Who knew me (Morgan) demanding we go out for drinks on a Tuesday night would kick off 5 hrs of conversation. We quickly became inseparable, going on three more dates before the week's end. Wednesday night's became our standard outing at Cowboys Dance Hall -- I hate to say it, but I didn't really know how to country dance despite being born and raised in Texas. Throughout many moves - Brent's extended TDY to Austin, becoming homeless (well he moved in with his parents briefly), then finally going to Del Rio for pilot training, plus my moving out of my parents and eventually buying my own home - we were able to stick it out together. Now Brent drives up to San Antonio to see me on the weekends until he finishes pilot training in April 2020. That's when we'll find out what airframe and first base location he'll get, where I'll finally get to join him for real.
Both Brent and I come from families of service and sacrifice. Brent's father, Col John Taylor (Ret.) graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1986 and served for 26 years as an intelligence officer. My late brother, Capt Mark "Tyler" Voss also graduated from the Academy in 2008, completed pilot training at Laughlin AFB in Del Rio. He went on to fly KC-135's until his death on May 3rd, 2013 during a refueling mission in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. We hope to continue that legacy with our own service. Brent followed his father's footsteps to the Academy, graduating in 2017, and is finishing phase III of pilot training at Laughlin. Brent will be seen at the wedding showing off the Air Force Mess Dress. I took a different route into the Air Force, taking advantage of an ROTC scholarship to attend MIT and commission upon graduation. I will not be wearing Mess Dress.
