El Cielo is about a 2 hr drive south of San Diego. We recommend renting a car or driving your car if you are local to Southern California. The drive takes you around Tijuana and right along the coast on a toll road. It is a beautiful drive where the last time we went Amanda saw a pod of dolphins from the car!
You don't need to convert your money to Pesos. Pretty much everywhere we have been in Valle de Guadalupe will take either credit/debit cards or US dollars. If you plan on using your credit/debit cards while in Mexico make sure you contact your bank to let them know of your travel plans. If you pay in US dollars expect to get Pesos back in change!
You can get insurance from one of the many vendors located state side before the border. There are a ton at the last few exits before you get to the Mexico border in San Diego, and a couple near the airport as well. Examples are https://www.mexborder.com/ or https://www.bajabound.com/
Yes. All car rentals in San Diego will allow for you to drive their cars in Mexico when you purchase additional insurance. If you are renting a car be sure to ask the agency what additional insurance is required.
You can take the shuttle we will be coordinating. When RSVPing indicate you want a seat on the shuttle, and we will get back to you on the cost per seat on the shuttle and the times the shuttle will be leaving San Diego on Friday (most likely mid morning), and what time the shuttle should arrive back to San Diego on Sunday (most likely mid afternoon). Shuttle seats are restricted to traveling only on Friday to Sunday.
There are tons of fantastic restaurants and wineries in the area. Take a look at our to-do tab for some suggestions!
