Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

Black tie. Women: formal, floor length gowns. We encourage bright, colorful dresses. Style tip: the beautiful streets of downtown Oaxaca are cobblestone. Stilettos are not recommended. Men: Black or Dark Blue Tuxedo. Our reception will be outdoors and we plan to party well into the night. Come prepared!

Hotel information

Answer

November is one of the best times to visit Oaxaca. Hotels will be booked up in advance! We recommend booking your accommodations well before the wedding.

Flight information

Answer

Few direct flights exist within the US. Houston and Dallas – you have direct flights! Almost everyone else will need to connect in Mexico City, Houston, or Dallas. Our favorite airline is Delta/Aeromexico. Travel tip: Mexico City is a great place to visit before/after Oaxaca.

Ground transportation from the airport?

Answer

Only taxis are available in Oaxaca, no Uber. For taxi service, see the counter in OAX airport. Two options are available: 1) Collective transportation about $5 USD per person. 10-12 people shared van. 2) Private taxi car is about $20 USD. The ride is approximately 30 minutes. Taxi service can be paid with credit cards at the airport. Note: You will need cash for taxis within the city and back to the airport. While we love your little ones and would love to celebrate with everyone we know, our wedding will be an adults only affair.

What is the weather like in Oaxaca?

Answer

In November the average temperatures range from lows of 49 to highs of 82 degrees Fahrenheit. November is in the dry season; Rain is infrequent.

Is Oaxaca a Walkable city?

Answer

Absolutely! Click here to see our recommended restaurants, bars, museums, and sights. With few exceptions, you will be able to walk to all places included on our list. Downtown Oaxaca is a perfect place to stay. You’re at the center of it all!

Credit cards accepted in Oaxaca?

Answer

Many places accept credit cards, but note that Amex is not commonly accepted. Bring a Visa or Mastercard. We recommend keeping small amounts of cash on hand for taxis, market purchases, and tips.

What is a Calenda?

Answer

Calendas are a fundamental part of the festivities in Oaxaca. It is a celebratory festival for the bride and groom that manifests joy, and strengthens family, community and personal ties. They traditionally occur immediately after the religious ceremony.

Oaxaca is one the most diverse cities in Mexico and one of our favorite places in the world. We recommend that guests explore the city before and after the wedding. Please see our list of recommended restaurants, bars, and other must-visit places in the city.
