Brandon and Rachael met in the 90th minute, home stretch, closing time of college. March of Senior year – the perfect time to look for a serious relationship. The Friday after Spring Break is one where not many people are on campus. A small group of Rachael and her sorority sisters wandered up to a friend’s pregame in the apartment directly above theirs, which happened to be Brandon's. Side note: They lived one floor apart at Garner Hall Freshman Year (2nd floor & 3rd floor), and one floor apart Senior Year at GST (7th floor & 8th floor), but had never actually met...This turned into not your average college pregame when Rachael noticed a coupon book on the counter… and this wasn’t any ole’ crappy college bookstore coupon book. We’re talking free Digiorno’s, Tollhouse Cookies, Lean Cuisines. This was the kind of gold Indiana Jones searches for! So, Rachael and her friend Kaitlin naturally started tearing out the coupons and putting them in their pockets. This resulted in the following conversation: “uh, can I help you?” Rachael: “no thanks, I’m good.” Brandon: “But those are my coupons you’re rifling through!” So basically, their first interaction was Rachael and her friend stealing from Brandon… we could only go up from there! They spent the rest of the night hanging out at Joe’s in Champaign and stayed up drinking wine on Brandon’s couch until 5 AM. The next 2 months of college they were together nonstop, going to each other’s formals, barn dances, last hours and closed down Kams together for the last time as students. 😉 Technically, Brandon never got the opportunity to formally ask her out, seeing as Sparky (Rachael’s Dad) walked up to him at Kam’s on graduation weekend and said “so, are you Rachael’s boyfriend or what?” and he said “Yes” then went back and happily told Rachael “I just told your dad I am your boyfriend”. Eventually he asked her to marry him and she said yes, so they think they’re all good? Since then, they have dated long distance, as well as living together in Minneapolis, Ann Arbor, and now Chicago. They’ve travelled to Greece, London, Italy, Canada, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and all over the US. They absolutely cannot wait to get married in Cabo with their closest friends in family in February 2023. Let the celebrations begin!
