How We Met

02.22.16

Her Story: Our good friend, Sheila, invited me to Sunday Funday at Tailwinds. I had an idea that she wanted to try and set me up with this "fun, cute pilot" but I wasn't having it...at first. She introduced me to Jamey, and that was it. Really. For Months. He would FB message me from time to time how he was coming to "visit me" at the bar I was bartending for, but never showed. After "almost three strikes", he convinced me to go to dinner with him....he showed up WAY late. I still wasn't sure about this ""fun, cute pilot". He continued to message me, and finally I gave him MY phone number! We texted more, and then he invited me to float on the 4th with all of his friends, I literally only knew him. I had so much fun, I knew that I wouldn't want to hang with anyone else.. he won me over...finally. His Story: I was bar tending on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Tailwinds Distilling and our friend Sheila was in visiting with a group of people from Pollyanna Brewing Company. Sheila had mentioned her friend Britney previously who was a new bartender at Pollyanna but her and I had yet to meet. Sheila continued bugging Britney to come out to Tailwinds until she finally caved in to the peer pressure and said yes! I didn’t know it at the time but I was about to meet my future wife. I still reminisce with Britney about that day in the distillery and that I knew right from the moment we met that I was going to marry her someday. It took me weeks of texting back and forth with Britney to finally convince her to get me a shot and take her out on our first date for tacos and margaritas, of course.

The Proposal (Her Story)

06.23.18

Jamey is the captain of surprises - he LOVES them. It's a competition to see who can come up with the best surprises. HIM, it's always HIM. So while in Spain (summer 2018), it really was no surprise that he planned a surprise for our last night in Barcelona. We spent the day exploring, shopping, and drinking sangria. In a Spanish McDonald's (yes, we tried it), Jamey got news that the surprise was about to be cancelled or re-scheduled for another day (which we did not have in Barce). It looked like he was about to throw up so he told me the surprise: sailing on the oldest wooden ship in Spain, but the Captain said the water was too rough. Me: It's ok, babe (quite relieved) Him: NO. you don't understand. We have to do this surprise tonight. *He emails back, and the captain agrees to still go out that night, surprise still on. We get dressed up, pack the wine and olives, and go. It's beautiful. We get on board and settle in. We leave the marina, so far so good. Then, I am the one about to throw up. I don't look, I don't speak, I don't even want wine. IT IS TERRIBLE. I couldn't imagine spending the next two hours on this boat! After an eternity, the captain says there is a problem and has to stop the boat. He goes underneath...WHAT?! another thing could not go wrong. We sit there talking, drinking some wine, and then he turns me around and has the ring! literally a blur. YES!

The Proposal (His Story)

06.23.18

His Story: I made the decision to propose during our trip to Barcelona at the end of June and I had it all planned out, or so I thought. I booked us a romantic sunset sail on the Balaeric Sea on the evening of June 23rd. I received a message earlier in the day from the ships Captain telling me the sea was too rough for sailing and we might need to cancel that nights cruise, my stomach dropped. I began to scramble for another way to salvage this night and proposal. After much pleading with the Captain he agreed to still take us on the evenings cruise, pfffewwww! We arrived to our surprise sailboat ride with plenty of wine, cheese and unbeknown to Britney an engagement ring hidden in my pocket. We boarded the ship and headed out to sea to find the waters were still very very rough. I could tell by the green in Britneys face that she was not enjoying her surprise and I began to worry that this was not the right place to propose. We finally found calmer water and looking back over the beautiful setting sun overthrow hills Barcelona I fetched the ring from my pocket and spun Britney around to have the perfect view of her eyes lighting up wide as I presented her the ring and asked those four very important words, “will you marry me?” That day was a rollercoaster of emotions for me that ended with one of the happiest moments in my life. And just then, as she said “yes”, the twilight sky erupted with fireworks and music! The 23rd of Jun is the celebration for the beginning of summer, I couldn’t think of a more fitting reception for the newly engaged couple as we arrived back into the port of Barcelona.
