Sam is a March guy. He loves the weather, the weekend events and most of all, he loves March Madness. Lucky for us, the first day we ever met was also in March... classily, at Fado’s annual St. Patrick’s Day party. Ever since, we’ve spent the month celebrating our love and of course, watching basketball. Last March was our 3-year anniversary. Like every year, we put together our NCAA brackets and spent the weeks making the most of Atlanta springtime. Sam was acting a little weirder than usual throughout the month, though. Everyday he would remind me that we had plans to celebrate our anniversary on March 30. “Don’t make plans,” he would repeat daily. Finally, on March 30, we got ready for a night out at one of our favorite pizza spots, Varuni Napoli. Three years before, the park outside the restaurant was where we declared ourselves an “exclusive couple,” so this was a natural (and suspicious!) choice for dinner. We ubered to the spot, enjoyed some za, and headed to the bar to watch basketball. A couple drinks later, Sam and I left Varuni to take a quick anniversary selfie in our park... or so I thought! In a wild and out-of-body series of events, I watched as Sam got down on one knee, popped open a ring box and asked me to marry him. After a temporary blackout and mild shock, I said yes! The surprises continued with a quick photoshoot (shoutout to Sadat!), tequila shots and a celebration with friends and family. It was a night we’ll always remember... and because I can’t resist, a March Madness we’ll never forget.
