We met in his fraternity one winter night through a mutual friend and quickly found a natural bond. We heard that the northern lights were visible from the golf course, so we slipped and slid across the ice covered campus to try to catch a peek. We may not have been able to see the lights, but there was definitely a spark between us. I (Blake) was off campus in Boston that term, and one weekend, Wills took a leap of faith and hopped on the Dartmouth Coach to visit me and we became, in Wills' own words, "a thing." After graduating, we both got jobs in San Francisco and have lived there ever since.
Wills planned a surprise weekend in Big Sur the weekend after my birthday. We drove out early Friday morning to hike the Soberanes Canyon trail. The hike was challenging, and both of us were covered in sweat by the time we made it to the top of the ridge. Alone on the top of the ridge with a breathtaking ocean view, Wills got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes! We spent the rest of the weekend relaxing being engaged in Big Sur with fabulous meals, wildlife (whales & condors) and hiking, and enjoying views from cliffside pools.
