As most modern love stories go these days, Chelsea and Travis met on a dating app. Chelsea will tell this part of their story through cringed teeth, but in truth she’s grateful to the platform for ultimately bringing her to Travis. They first swiped right in early October of 2020. The conversational chemistry was strong right from the start. They took time to get to know each other over text then set a first date. They had set plans to meet at a restaurant on a random Tuesday night; however, Travis texted and cancelled. Family tragedy hit just before their scheduled date, and the loss of Travis’ uncle Wayne meant putting their first date on hold. Chelsea had been here before and honestly assumed the two would never meet up. As she had seen many times in the online dating world, a cancellation early on rarely meant someone would reschedule. Chelsea prepared to move on but she kept in touch with Travis, wanting to make sure that he was doing okay through the grief. To her pleasant surprise Travis was actively in touch as well. It didn’t take long for the rain check to get cashed in and on October 27th, 2020, Chelsea and Travis met at Long Horn Steak House in Fort Collins, Colorado for their first date. The two found incredible chemistry in person and ended up talking so long that they shut down the restaurant. They both remember lots of quick witted jokes and laughing, they understood each other’s humor and felt incredibly comfortable from the start. Chelsea remembers Travis’ smooth way of setting a second date. When she asked him what he had going on the rest of the week; Travis began listing off each day and what he would be doing, when he got to Thursday day he paused and asked if Chelsea was busy that evening. Chelsea said she was not, and Travis replied with “so Thursday I’ll be having a movie night with you” followed by a smile and a wink, then he completed his list for the rest of the week. Their relationship grew from that night on and by January of 2021 the “I love you’s” were said and their commitment to each other was undeniable.
It was February of 2022 when Travis passively mentioned to Chelsea that a Rockies game would be fun for his birthday. Wanting to finally surprise him, she had tried and failed many times before, Chelsea booked tickets for the two of them and their best friends Matt and Audri. In April Chelsea told Travis there was a surprise happening the Saturday evening before his birthday. He immediately guessed it right and Chelsea told a white lie saying it was not in fact a baseball game. To be fair he didn’t guess that it was a Rockies game WITH Matt and Audri. The months leading up to Travis’ birthday, and what Chelsea thought would be the ultimate surprise, Travis knew everyone was also anticipating a proposal soon. Their friends took bets on when it would happen, trips came and went, events and outings occurred without a pop of the question. Travis did have fun with the proposal fake outs though, a "oh just tying my shoe" here and a "ahh look at this penny on the ground" there. At Easter lunch Travis announced he wanted to book Rockies tickets for his family and hers for his actual birthday. Not wanting to ruin her surprise Chelsea didn’t tell him about the game she had booked. Travis planned out the event with Chelsea’s Dad at Easter lunch. The next day Travis got off work early and made his way to Chelsea’s parents apartment. Travis asked Cory for his blessing to marry his daughter and received an overwhelming yes. He shared his plan to propose at the baseball game and looped the rest of the families in. Finally June 4th came around and Chelsea took Travis out to the ballgame. He was surprised to get to celebrate with his best bud and they had a wonderful evening. Chelsea felt accomplished having surprised him at least a little. Audri put them up at her beautiful Denver Airbnb. They enjoyed a lazy Sunday morning on June 5th, grabbing brunch at Denver Biscuit Company and enjoying the time toghether. By noon they entered the ballpark for yet another day of baseball, peanuts and cracker jacks. They settled in with Chelsea’s Parents, her sister Brittany, her Brother Luke and Nephew Xander, Uncle David, Travis’s Aunt Darla and Uncle Jeff, cousins Amanda and Ashley with their families, Uncle Paul and Aunt Cinnamon, Travis’s step Dad Don and Brother Sam. As Travis tells the story, his original plan was to propose at the 7th inning stretch when the Rockies play the song "Hey Baby". He was going to ask her to be his wife when the lyrics say "will you be my girl", but when they sat down he realized waiting 7 innings was going to be impossible. At the end of the second inning Chelsea got up to replenish her drink. Travis alerted the family that he would pop the question when she arrived back. When Chelsea got back to her seat, arms full of drinks and snacks, Uncle Paul took on the role of alerting everyone of her presence by saying “Hey Chelsea, How Ya Doin?”. Chelsea shouted back with a friendly hello then heard Travis say “Hey Chelsea, will you marry me” to her right. It took her a minute to realize he was down on one knee, holding his grandmas wedding ring. He said again, “Will you marry me?” and with tears in her eyes Chelsea responded with “Yes I Will!”. Chelsea then spilt her popcorn trying to empty her arms so she could kiss her new fiance. As Chelsea puts it “That day the Rockies may have lost, but I won!” and as Travis puts it "I got myself a Future Wife for my birthday."
