We met on Hinge in early 2019 and connected over our love of Harry Potter, food, and the strong importance of our family and friends. We still disagree to this day on who made the first move (Erin did, no matter how hard she tries to deny it!), but we quickly made plans for our first date at Railtrail Flatbread in Hudson, MA. We’ve kept the tradition alive, going each year for our anniversary. We were so caught up in getting to know each other that we stayed until Railtrail closed. We decided that we’d love to see where things went and made plans for a day in Boston that coming weekend. What started as a trip to the Boston Aquarium, turned into a full day of good food and breweries, with some commiseration around Gronk retiring the first time for good measure. Erin fell asleep on Dan’s shoulder during the train ride home and he couldn’t help but sneak a smile. A month and many dates later (including Dan kicking Erin’s butt in bowling every time we played), we felt that we could be something more and became “Facebook official”.
With a little bit of magic, sheer dumb luck and a lot of help from some friends, Dan put together the perfect Harry Potter-themed scavenger hunt. He put the gears in motion, knowing Erin was taking Anya and Stephanie out for a night of good food and cocktails. He stayed back with Joe to hide the clues around the apartment. He woke up early the next morning, walked the pup and took care of putting together a breakfast that contained her first of many clues, initially leading her to the closet where her Hogwarts house sweater was ready and waiting for her to change. Erin, channeling her inner Hermione, solved the rest of the riddles a little too quickly, finding the Room of Requirement where the ring sat inside a box with a note asking if she would marry him. In the most surprising moment of the day, she said YES. After a day of excited calls with friends and family, we spent the night celebrating with Dumbledore’s Army with a private dinner at J’s Restaurant, where I (Dan) bluntly asked Cat if she would like to officiate our wedding (I went 2 for 2 on the yeses that day!).
