Emma went to college with Billy’s sister but got to know Billy years later when they connected in New York. At the time Emma had been living in New York for four years and Billy was new to the area having just moved from San Francisco. They bonded over good and bad theater, bad, worse, and occasionally decent improv, and a mutual love of travel, hoarding books, and silly phrases from Brooklyn 99. As they’ve grown as a couple they have particularly enjoyed hosting game nights, cooking together, and growing their small menagerie. Billy and Emma moved from New York to DC a year and a half after they met so that Emma could pursue law school. When they arrived in DC, before they unpacked any boxes, they ate their first DC meal of Ethiopian on top of a box in their living room while watching “All the President’s Men” to welcome themselves to the city. It only made sense to get engaged at the Watergate Hotel during its 50 year Watergate scandal anniversary “celebration” a year and a half later. They look forward to the years ahead and the laughs, eyerolls, and memories to come.
