Our story began on December 30th, 2021. Little did we know then that a simple banter about Real Madrid and Barcelona would last forever. Yes, as shocking as it might be given we are both crazy sports fans, though cheering for rival sides, that was one of the very first conversations we had. Shortly after, we also realized the many similarities we share. We both were born and raised in Amman, Jordan, and made our way to the US as adults, albeit in slightly different paths. Louay moved to the US in the Summer of 2021 to start his residency at MedStar Washington Hospital in DC. Bettina moved with her family in 2014 to finish the last two years of high school in Charlottesville, VA, where she went on to attend college at the University of Virginia and later moved to Richmond, VA after graduation. What we also quickly realized is how crazy it is that we met in the US when it would’ve been more likely to cross paths in Jordan for multiple reasons, including the fact that we both grew up playing basketball and soccer at the same club (Orthodox club) in Amman. Furthermore, our parents knew of each other, and Louay and Bettina’s sister, Celina, attended the same kindergarten. Needless to say, there was an immediate connection there and a feeling of familiarity that came along with it. For months after crossing paths and countless trips up and down I-95 between DC and Richmond, we knew that there was nothing that could keep us apart and decided to take the next step and get engaged. December 30th, 2023, exactly two years to the day we met, was a day we will never forget, where we formally took that first step to forever with our close family and friends who made their way from different parts of the world to celebrate with us in a truly memorable night in Richmond, VA. We still look at pictures and videos from that night .. Bettina maybe on a daily basis. To this day, we look back fondly on our time together and the improbable path that got us to this point in our lives, where we are now planning our wedding in Amman, Jordan, our hometown that means so much to the both of us. The feeling of home that we found in each other is something that we would not trade for the world and we are so excited to start our new life together in a few short months. We look forward with joy in our heart to August 9th, 2024, when we will officially become one, and it will be a great honor for us to celebrate this next milestone in our lives with you!
