We went on a date to an arcade which has since closed, then went driving around until we found this cute lookout spot overlooking the valley. We both sat in the back of his hatchback watching the lights when Owen asked me “ Hey can I ask you something personal?” My heart fluttered. “Sure,” I replied. “Are you a fan of spontaneous decisions?” I thought for a moment. “Yeah, I think they are nice. There’s this cute movie where the main character said he just needed 10 seconds of courage to speak to the woman who would eventually become his wife. So I think that spontaneous decisions can lead to great things.” “Cool,” he replied, then went back to looking out at the lights. I turned away too and we both took in the moment until Owen broke the silence again, “Hey one more thing…” And as I turned towards him to listen to him continue he leaned forward and kissed me. I didn’t stop smiling the whole drive home
I honestly don’t remember too much of the circumstances around when Owen first told me he loved me. I just remember we were cuddling and we looked over at me and said, almost exasperatingly, “I don’t know how you managed to do it but I am so in love with you” I knew that was hard for him to admit but boy oh boy was my heart filled with joy. He loved me and I loved him, and our “I love you”’s would evolve over the years to “I love you to the moon and back” to “I love you to the moon and back 3000”. All the while trying to one up each other on who loved the other most. “I love you to the moon and back 3001!” “I love you more!” It’s cheesy but we always end out calls with a one up, each of us fighting to say “I love you most” and hang up before the other responds. It all started with that first I love you, and so it will continue in a perpetual battle to say and show the other that our love is larger than theirs. I’m making this website though so Owen, I love you most and there is nothing you can do about it because I’m not giving you the password to edit the website. Suck it!
We weren’t even officially dating and yet he had already told me he loved me. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to be in a relationship again yet because he had just gotten out of a rough one so we were taking it slow. But anyway to set the scene we were hanging out at his house watching tv in his room when I looked over and saw he had an eyelash on his cheek. I picked it off and showed it to him. “Make a wish!” He blew it off, and we went back to watching tv for a bit until he asked, “You know what I wished for?” “If you tell me it might not come true.” “I think it might. I wished you would be my girlfriend.” I just smiled and kissed him. “I would love to.” “I love you.” “I love you too.” For the next few weeks my thoughts were consumed with “Girlfriend. I’m Owen’s girlfriend. I have a boyfriend!” My first relationship, and from the beginning I could picture him being my forever. Wedding bells weren’t ringing yet, but I knew they could be one day.
