Their first date was at South Philly Taproom, but the idea of a meetup was in the works for quite some time. Maggie's best friend and cousin, Robyn, had been working on this for a while. Robyn's husband, Nate, never gets enough credit for the role he played in it. He was the first to mention to Ben of Robyn's grand idea in December of 2019. While everyone spent most of the next eight months trying to avoid covid, Ben spent most of them being tested and quizzed by Robyn to make sure he might be a match. Nights hanging out on the back porch of Ben and Nate's house, listening to music and playing games, always ended with Robyn flipping the subject to a potential meetup. She had to make sure Ben liked Bruce Springsteen (he does), that the sleeveless hoodies weren't a full time thing (begrudgingly yes), that he was an Eagles fan (he is), and that he wouldn't be intimidated by a large family including four brothers (he definitely was). Maggie spent a majority of those eight months with her family working remote at Elk Lake, getting updates and intel over the phone. Maggie would eventually return to South Philly from her covid hiatus, and while celebrating her birthday in September with her cousins, she decided to be the brave one and reach out. After planning to meet at Talula's Garden, they realized that day that a reservation was never made. They ended up meeting at South Philly Taproom where they talked for hours (mostly about the Bachelor), forgetting to ever order dinner, just lost in the funny banter and enjoying each other's company.
It was the end of January in 2023, the weekend of the NFC Championship game between the Eagles and 49ers. Ben, Maggie, Nate, and Robyn headed up to Elk Lake for one last weekend before Nate and Robyn headed overseas for a new adventure. Maggie was under the assumption the goal of the weekend was for Robyn to get some ski practice in so she would be ready for the Swiss Alps. After a ski session Saturday morning, Ben and Maggie were able to find themselves alone down by the dock, enjoying a beer and a warm fire. Maggie started to gripe about not getting a ticket to the Eagles game the next day, to which Ben replied it was mostly his fault, they would be a little busy this weekend. Then when Ben started to pull the ring out of his pocket and get down on one knee, a shocked Maggie exclaimed "What is going on?". After a yes and a long hug, they turned around to see the Dewan and Bannon families watching from the deck above the house. The rest of the night was filled with friends and family from all over slowly trickling in to celebrate with the happy couple.
