Our Celebration

Mackworth Island State Park

We decided to celebrate our six years of love by finally tying the knot on December 18, 2020. It was just the two of us at Mackworth Island State Park in our new home state of Maine, with an officiant, a photographer, and a wedding planner acting as our witnesses. It was casual, spontaneous, and special—our motto for both our wedding and life! We always knew we wanted a small celebration without the stress of planning a huge affair, and we felt it was the right time to take the (polar) plunge (just kidding...we didn’t jump in the water. We’re not that insane).

Our Story

It all started with an email

When Noah decided to attend the University of Pittsburgh, his mother, Nancy, received an email from cousin Arleen about a wonderful person there named Becca: (April 29, 2013) Hi Nancy and Jay, I had a conversation with a community member who has a granddaughter currently attending the University of Pittsburgh. I mentioned that I have a cousin entering in the fall. I’m happy to connect them if you would like. Her name is Becca Berland. Take care, Arleen You might have (correctly) guessed that the email went nowhere. Noah never reached out—which is probably a good thing, because there’s no chance Becca would have gotten coffee (or gone to a sketchy house party) with a random guy she heard about from Toledo. As Noah’s freshman year and Becca’s sophomore year at Pitt came to an end, they both signed up to participate in a summer trip to Israel (yes, Birthright, how cliché—shouldn’t they be paying for this thing?!). While waiting for the rest of the group to arrive at Newark Liberty International Airport, Noah asked where Becca was from, and she answered “Toledo.” From there, they had almost *too* much to talk about, including Maddie Klein (Noah’s cousin, who Becca has known since kindergarten—hi, Maddie!) and the fact that their grandparents live within spitting distance from one another in Carrietowne. From that moment on, they never really separated, becoming bus buddies for the trip and chatting non-stop, even when everyone else was trying to catch some ZZZ’s before climbing Masada at sunrise. It was b’sheret. Six years later, we’ve spent a summer abroad together, traveled the world, moved across the country, started our careers, acquired our pup, Basil (the real king of the house), and moved to Maine. The past six years are so full of memories and we cannot wait to create even more with all of you as we start the next chapter of our lives.

Our Rings

L'dor V'dor (From Generation to Generation)

We're happy to share that Noah is wearing his late Grandpa Hank’s wedding band and Becca’s wedding ring set was designed around stones from his late Grandma Roz’s ring. We're lucky to be able to carry the love they had for each other on our hands and are excited to try and fill such big shoes. We look forward to seeing these stones and memories live on through us and for many generations to come!
