Becca's Story

The beginning, the middle, and the unwritten ending.

We are so excited for our big day and can't wait to celebrate with all of you! In anticipation, we thought we'd catch you up on our story :) We met wayyy back in 2017 on a mission trip with our youth group. If you've ever been in Christian church culture there's a classic stereotype of relationships popping up during mission trips and church camps. We were 16 and were high school leaders on this mission trip. I led a small group of middle school girls and Cameron led a small group of middle school boys. Inevitably, two students from our groups started "dating". As any great leader would do, Cameron told me that we should aim to keep our groups together in an effort to keep an eye on the two kids. I OBVIOUSLY agreed (I already had a slight crush on Cam). We hung out during that week and started chatting about all things movies, music, and just being in high school. Right after the mission trip I texted Cam about music recommendations for a road trip and he proceeded to make a 5 hour long playlist. Fast forward to December 2017 and we officially started dating. We spent the rest of high school together celebrating birthdays, holidays, proms, and graduation together. We decided to go to different colleges, both coincidentally in Ohio, and are finishing up 4 years of long distance! (We could not be MORE excited!) Cameron proposed on September 4th, 2022 in Columbus at Inniswood Metro Garden. My cousin, and maid of honor, Abby surprised me by taking pictures and videos of the proposal and immediately took our engagement pictures. The day got even better when my our families and friends surprised me with a party.

How we got here

As Becca said, we are so excited to celebrate our day with everyone! In anticipation, here is our story, but from my perspective. We met on the previously mentioned mission trip and as Becca said, a "relationship" between our kids led to us getting to know each other for the remainder of the trip. After the trip, I kept thinking about the conversations we had and wondering if I had missed something. One such moment when I was thinking about this was interrupted by a notification from Instagram saying I got a DM from Becca McMillen. We talked more about everything and Becca mentioned wanting new music to listen to because she was going on a road trip. I, being oblivious, threw together a playlist of music I currently liked and hoped it didn't sound too cheesy or too weird. One simple DM led to us talking more and more and eventually, I worked up the courage to ask her out. From there we made it through high school and (at the time of writing this) are now at the tail end of four years of long-distance because of college. (Slight backtrack here) During our sophomore year of college, I was at home because of the pandemic. Through many many facetime calls, movies watched, and weekend trips, I knew that Becca was the one for me. I spent time researching and understanding how ring shopping works and in late April 2021, I found the ring I was going to propose with. I then spent a very long time planning things out and trying to make the day as special as it could be. On September 4th, 2022, I proposed to Becca at Inniswood in Columbus and she said yes!!! We celebrated with our families and friends after at a surprise party (which was also a part of the planning)!
