A mutual friend from church was having people over at his place in Miami one night and we both showed up. After meeting each other and engaging in some conversation, Christia Dawn mentioned her best friend's name, who I also knew. We came to learn that we had both temporarily moved to Oklahoma around the same time and have a ton of mutual friends. So we sparked a friendship and remained friends for months until I realized that she was everything I could want in a future life partner. After a couple of months of being friends, I asked Christia Dawn to go grab some tacos with me one night. I picked her up from her place, took her to dinner, paid for the meal, and drove her back home at the end of the night. Sounds like a date, right? She refused to call it a date - just friends grabbing a bite. Over the next few months, I planned all kinds of "dates" that we went on, but she was playing so hard to get! She tried to friend-zone your boy, but I had to be resilient! When you know she's the one, you better be willing to fight for her love and win her over. When her family came to visit her in Florida, I hooked them up with rental car accommodations, restaurant suggestions, and even went to the beach with them and played some sand volleyball (my team won every game). It was after that trip that the LORD opened her eyes to what was in front of her all along... ME, her future husband! This is proof that prayer works. Pursuing Christia Dawn was completely worth it. We challenged each other spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. She fuels a fire within me that makes me want to strive for more. Before I could get a Proverbs 31 woman like her, I had to ask God to help me meet the criteria of Proverbs chapter 1 through chapter 30. Now we get to chase after God together. We met on June 24th, and a couple years later, I proposed to her on June 24th. A Texas boy and a Cali girl fell in love in South Florida.
