You can book your flight to Guatemala City, Guatemala. US passports do not require visas. If coming from Chicago, there is a direct flight from O'Hare to Guatemala City via United, but it is very infrequent. We recommend flying with United or American Airlines to make a domestic connection. There are more options through Volaris or Aeromexico, but you will connect through Mexico City which will require an additional customs/immigration screening.
Antigua is around 1.5 hours from Guatemala City. The best option is to book a shuttle. As a thank you, we are covering your transportation to Antigua from Guatemala City airport. Transportation will be provided by Antigua Tours and you can book your shuttle under the "Shuttles from the GUA airport to Antigua" section on this site: bit.ly/blshuttle You will cover your transportation back to Guatemala City. Transportation pickup/dropoff times are very flexible. Private taxi services and Uber are also available, with Uber being the more affordable option. Another option is to rent a car, but this is only if you're familiar with driving in foreign countries. DO NOT drive at night.
We have hotel blocks at Porta Hotel, Pensativo House and Casa Santa Rosa Hotel Boutique. These blocks are available through the links in the Lodging section of this website. You're welcome to book your own hotel, Airbnb or VRBO as well. Antigua has beautiful and affordable Airbnbs and VRBOs available for rent. The main events will occur Friday, Nov. 17th (welcome dinner), and Saturday, Nov. 18 (ceremony & reception). We recommend booking check-in on Nov. 17 and checkout on Nov. 19th, at the least to cover travel time. You are welcome to come early or stay as late as you'd like. We will be there from Nov. 4 through Nov. 22.
Antigua is a very walkable city. Wedding ceremony & reception are located at Santa Clara Covenant which is a 5 minute walk from the main square, and a 8 minute walk from Porta Hotel and Pensativo House. Depending on where you stay, it can be anywhere from a 5 minute to 20 minute walk. The roads are made from cobblestone so please watch your step 👀 Ladies in heels, I'm talking you. If you're looking for a ride, Tuk Tuks are your best option as they're quick and inexpensive. Uber is also available, but expect traffic as the roads are narrow and not paved.
Welcome dinner: cocktail attire. Wedding ceremony & reception: Semi-formal Cocktail Attire: Wear cocktail dresses, LBDs, dressy jumpsuits, and jackets and slacks. Semi-Formal: Tuxes and gowns are welcome, and so are suits and cocktail dresses.
Yes! Children are more than welcome to attend the celebration. We believe that our wedding day will be even more special with the presence of our younger guests. If you're booking your hotel at Porta or Pensativo, you can mention you have children when booking your room to ensure they can accommodate a bed/crib for them.
