How They Met

Planted Ideas or Lost in Transit

Bailey and Ethan first met at the frolf (frisbee golf) course on an extremely hot summer day in- oh gosh- 2011? 2012, maybe? Anyway, they played their round of frolf and went on with their own lives. Flash forward five years to the spring of 2016, Bailey started working at a restaurant in town called The Toasted Frog. As it turns out, the guy she met at the frolf course worked there as well- and BOOM! The rest is history. PSYCH! Actually it was almost the opposite. They said their hellos and acknowledged they knew of each other, but that was it. In all honesty, Bailey and Ethan barely spoke to each other at work. They were still living their own lives, they just happened to work together. Bailey went to study abroad in August of 2016. Throughout her time there, Ethan would send her messages asking how her adventures were going (Ethan will now claim he was “planting the idea” by keeping in touch, Bailey thinks it’s a buncha baloney). Nevertheless, during one conversation, Ethan asked where Bailey was headed next. She told Ethan she would be on her way to Spain. “Can you send me a Flamenco dancer?” Ethan asked. Bailey giggled (she always thought Ethan was funny) and said one was in transit and should show up on his doorstep any day! Bailey returned to Grand Forks in January 2017, and while she was rich in experience her pocketbook was looking pretty meager. Bailey was planning to go back to work at the Frog, but first she needed to pop in and talk to the manager about scheduling. She figured this would be a perfect excuse to ask Ethan if he wanted to “come with and grab a drink while she talked to Paul”. Smooth. Guess it worked because after that, the two spent most of their time together. Over the past five years together, Bailey and Ethan went from a family of two, to three with the welcoming of their sweet cat, Olive. Olive obviously needed a buddy, so they rescued their goofball cat, Kevin, making it four. Finally, on December 8, 2020, Bailey and Ethan welcomed the birth of their beautiful daughter, Lily, making them a happy family of five. Who would’ve thought two strangers that met on that hot summer day would become a family? Ethan would credit all those "ideas" he planted. Bailey thinks the credit should be given to the Flamenco dancer (who must be lost in transit), for not showing up on Ethan's doorstep, making room for her. Thank you all for celebrating our love with us—it truly means the world!
