Two years after we went on a wild and memorable hike together through the sandstone peaks of Piedra Blanca (and had to bushwack and scramble up a mountain since we got lost, twice) Joe suggested that we go back again for a sunset hike to catch a “pink moment” he witnessed while driving by there. (In Ojai, “pink moment” refers to the sunset reflecting a pink/orange hue on the white mountains). I immediately suspected that something was up —since Joe, an avid rock climber, would never suggest we go on a hike merely to enjoy the scenery— but I kept my hopeful suspicion to myself and gladly agreed. After getting briefly lost, again, we ascended to the top and took a moment to enjoy the view. Although I had a feeling of what was going to happen, Joe still took me by surprise and took my breath away when he knelt down and asked me to be his wife. As Joe was proposing and I exclaimed, YES!, the moon aligned perfectly with Venus, shining brightly above us. Joe and I always felt that the stars aligned to bring us together, so it seemed that the sky had stopped to witness us take this next big step in our life!
