We were both undergrad students at The University of Texas at Austin (hook' em horns!). There we each joined organizations that would often host events together, so we knew of each other but never had a real conversation. One fateful night, we finally officially met at a social event. Up until this point Riasat had no idea that Ayesha was Muslim. It was not until he saw a Muslim Pro notification pop up on Ayesha's phone that he realized otherwise. His exact words were "this changes everything!". He invited her to Friday prayers at the local mosque the next day... and the rest is history! Jk don't worry, there's definitely more to our story. Though we had a wholesome first date, school and work kept us both busy. When we could we'd meet up for a quick lunch between classes at the SAC, or study together at the PCL (iykyk). Over time it became obvious that we cared for each other, and knew we wanted to be together. Now came the scary part... telling the parents. We both eventually mustered up the courage to tell our families about one another, and during graduation we had our first very awkward and very brief family introductions. Family wasn't the only challenge we faced, as right after graduation Ayesha moved to Chicago for grad school and Riasat accepted a job in Denver, Colorado. Navigating long distance definitely had a huge learning curve (especially during a global pandemic!), but 3 years later we are still going strong. We have integrated into each others families and cannot imagine life with out each other. And now we don't have to! On August 16th, 2021 we officially got engaged. Now it's time for us to get married Insha'Allah, and we would love for you to come celebrate with us as we embark on this new and exciting chapter of our lives together.
