Avery and Kaylee went to the same school basically their entire lives and never talked to each other until 2017. One day Kaylee jokingly threw up a heart with her hands in the window to the gym where Avery was practicing basketball. At the time they had mutual friends and started hanging out more. Avery started buying Kaylee's lunch everyday (which she much appreciated) as an excuse to eat with her. All of this leading up to him asking her to prom. After prom they weren't sure if it would work out, but after a week they realized they did miss spending time together. They were inseparable the whole summer of 2017 and Avery finally worked up the courage to awkwardly ask Kaylee to be his girlfriend. They have been building a life together ever since.
Avery had a plan to propose on Mackinac Island but realized that he couldn't fit the ring box in his boot without it hurting from all of the walking (good call on his part because Kaylee had them walking in circles). After a long day, they went back to the hotel to take power naps. Kaylee suggested that they go on a "small" hike. They thought they were going on a quick hike to the beach. About halfway in Kaylee suggested they turn around because the sun was about to set, and they were so deep into the woods they could no longer hear the highway. Avery kept pushing her to keep going because of the surprise he had waiting for her. After forty minutes of walking, they made it to a beach. While Avery was in search of a dry spot of land to kneel down, Kaylee made her way to where the water was (so he did have to get his knee wet). She turned around to find Avery on one knee. After saying yes and quickly taking a picture they realized their phones were going to die, they didn't have service, the sun was about to set, and they had a long hike back to the car. Avery ran through the woods afraid it would get dark. Kaylee was tripping trying to keep up. Yes, you read that right Avery proposed then was running as fast as he could to get out of the woods not that concerned if Kaylee was keeping up or not. They were fortunately able to make it out of the woods in time before sunset but were definitely out of breath.
