If you enjoy botanical gardens, the Huntington Library has a beautiful one. We love strolling here to enjoy a sunny day and leisurely walk. You have to buy tickets and make reservations in advance, so be sure to do so if this piques your interest!
For a quick (but intense!) hike, one of our favorites on the east side is the Fern Dell Nature Trail in Griffith Park. It's steep enough to get a little work out in but not too long. And it lands you at the famous Griffith Park Observatory - cool in its own right, also one of the best vistas of LA. If you want, you can extend the hike further or turn around whenever. Make sure to bring water, sunglasses, and a hat!
There is a lovely flat walking trail around Silver Lake Reservoir (approximately a 2 mile loop). Nice views of the surrounding hills and an easy walk for everyone. Wear sneakers anyway! It's a bit dusty. There's a few houses around the reservoir that are designed by famed LA architect, Richard Neutra. One of them, Neutra VDL Studio and Residences, is a museum you can tour inside. And there's a lovely picnic area called Silver Lake Meadows where you can bring a blanket and some snacks to enjoy the afternoon (just don't forget sunscreen).
Cluster of nice bars, restaurants, and coffee shops with some fun stores sprinkled in. Hip area close to the venue and directly adjacent to the Silver Lake Pool & Inn.
A great collection of contemporary art that's impressive and not too big (easily done within an hour or two). Make sure to see what's on exhibit before going - there may be some more popular special shows that sell out. You can book a time allotted ticket in advance (they're free unless for a special exhibit) or try to get one as a walkup. We recommend booking online/in advance just to be safe!
Great museum! Sprawling, has incredible views of LA, and a huge collection of art including some exciting contemporary exhibits. There is also the Getty Villa which is on the west side on the PCH. It's beautiful and has a smaller collection of classical art.
Fun street to walk around with lots of restaurants and very LA shops for those staying on the west side. Gjelina is a great spot for dinner (reservations needed), or extend your walk a bit beyond Abbot Kinney to Gjusta for brunch.
This is our favorite beach hands down. It's in Malibu, so is a bit of a drive, but entirely worth it. It's somewhat secluded, natural, and beautiful. We recommend bringing snacks, an umbrella/shade source, and plenty of water. If you choose to make the drive, we recommend parking somewhere along Broad Beach Rd (make sure you park inside the white lines - they ticket here). Walk along Broad Beach Rd to W Sea Level Dr. You'll come upon a gate - just push the door and it will open. Continue walking down W Sea Level Dr and you'll come to some stairs that take you down to the beach.
