It was a snowy, chilly day in Vail. After spending all day lugging screaming kids through the snow, Maddy needed a drink. She decided to meet some friends who were in town from Denver at Moe's BBQ- the local watering hole for ski instructors to gather after work. Austin needed to kick it after a long shift smoking ribs. He sat down with Maddy and their friends. They both had off the next day, so made a plan to ski together. Austin was a pretty stylish skier, so Maddy didn’t mind that he smelled like smoked chicken wings. He convinced Maddy to send it off a cliff- and felt pretty bad about the resulting yard sale, so made it up to her by taking her out for margs. Austin continued to court Maddy with some Moe's banana puddings (highly recommend), and Maddy continued to impress Austin with her technique in the bumps. When the season was over, they both realized they weren’t ready to give each other up. No one made Maddy laugh like Austin, and she realized she was quickly falling in love. Austin already was. They started an adventure together that took them around the world and finally back to Vail.

After seven years, a couple graduate degrees, a stint in NYC and a move to LA, Austin decided it was time to make his life with his best friend official. It was difficult to plan with Maddy’s busy social schedule, but he finally managed to pencil in a Friday afternoon to take her out sailing. He threw on his best linen shirt, sailed out into the pacific ocean on a little Catalina 22, and got down on one knee. Maddy hasn’t stopped smiling since. Three sheets to the wind!
