Maurice and I met during our first week of college back in 2015 where we quickly grew to be best friends. On January 16, 2017 Maurice asked me to be his girlfriend and we have remained inseparable ever since. On April 24, 2022 after almost 5 and a half years of dating, Maurice took me to Preacher’s Rock located up in the North Georgia mountains for what I thought was going to be just another spontaneous weekend adventure for us, but boy oh boy was I wrong. Once we made our way up to the top of the mountain, Maurice pulled off what I would consider to be the BIGGEST surprise of my life.. he finally got down on one knee and proposed to me while we looked out over God’s most beautiful creation. I had absolutely no idea that any of it was happening, but it was undoubtedly the easiest “yes!” of my life! To make our incredibly beautiful, yet incredibly long story short: after 3 long months, prior to Maurice’s Officer Candidates School graduation, he received military orders to report to his next training station in Quantico, Virginia sooner than what we originally expected. Because of this, all of our previous wedding plans for November 22, 2022 were thrown out the window. So, with everything being thrown at us so quickly, after the OCS family day celebration before OCS graduation, we took the few hours of free time that Maurice was given that day and decided that there was no reason for us to push our wedding day back any longer! So on November 18, 2022 we ran to the court house and officially got married at the Veteran’s War Memorial in Stafford, Virginia! That weekend was one to remember for sure.. it was probably the most special and most eventful weekend of our lives—Maurice graduated and became a 2ndLt in the United States Marine Corps, and we officially became Mr. and Mrs. Sutton! Now, just a few short days later, we have officially moved into our first apartment together in Virginia right outside of Marine Corps Base Quantico and are slowly trying to get adjusted and get our new life started. Let this crazy journey begin!
