Ashley and Roopak met at a mutual friend's wedding in Playa Del Carmen in late 2018. They discovered their mutual love for the ocean, adventuring around novel towns, and eating as many one-dollar quesadillas and street food as possible. In typical form, Ashley was also scuba diving volunteer to count bull sharks, and Roopak was working remotely with coworkers having no idea that he was in Mexico. They continued to get to know each other once they got back to the Bay Area and grew to build a life together.

Ashley & Roopak got engaged* on June 11th, 2022 in Capitola, California. As they were enjoying a beach picnic on a beautiful 80 degree summer day, Roopak asked Ashley if she wanted to see a manta ray**. He promptly lost Ashley's attention to the ocean. Once a disappointed Ashley finally looked back at Roopak, she discovered him laying on one elbow, with a manta ray ring, and 3 carefully curated Taco Bell Mild sauce packets, asking her to spend the rest of their lives together. *Being professional operations managers, Ashley and Roopak completed all items on their checklist before proceeding to engagement **Ashley's sister Katie, and Roopak's sister Deepika, deserve credit for assisting / approving of Roopak's first major jewelry purchase
